There is one thing people should know before purchasing .... as of 1/1/2012 MSN is discontinuing the traffic feature. You shall not be able to renew it even.
I do not know about the other features like the movies, flight info, etc. So it loses some of its value straight away. Sadly, that bring me to wonder if I should really pay a lot for it. Basically it will be like the Nuvi 265w (No traffic feature)
Otherwise my daughter loves it and I want one. Even though I have a nav system built in my dash already.
I also have the old school Garmin street pilot 7250 <?> GPS (not sure of the #)& hardly use it.
This one (Nuvi 285WT) is so much more compact and easy to use. And the BLUE TOOTH is a bonus b/c I do not like my daughter driving and holding the phone to speak, so the hands-free speaker phone is a G-dsend. :D
I've had Garmin's in the past and like their interface for controlling the GPS so buying this Garmin was an easy switch and I was instantly familiar with everything and able to use it. I activated my 9 months free MSN subscription and really love the traffic information, weather, news, movie times and flight info. I just moved state and it's been a life saver.
i both Garmin Nuvi 285WT unit very good. Personally, this is what I consider to be the strongest feature of the Garmin 285wt. Thanks to its built in traffic receiver, you can receive updates in real time while you are driving, for all sorts of useful information: Flights status, local weather, traffic, movie times, stock information, gas prices,
Garmin GPS is one of the GPS systems you can buy. I have tried a couple of brands going by the price and not the product, and I must say Garmin is well worth the money! It is easy to navigate and has alot of extra features including some models with bluetooth. The off brands were alot more difficult to use and not so detailed on the maps. Garmin's maps are crystal clear with alot of detail. The touchscreen is so simple to use because it has very basic options adn it only takes a couple of clicks to get what you need.
In a word, Garmin is simple to use with many models to choose from. I chose this 285w for a number of reasons, but the bluetooth technology was the most attractive to me. In an age where laws are being passed to deal with drivers who insist on the distraction of cell phone usage on our frenetic highways, I wanted to end that practice. Even with my LG600G TracFone I was able to connect the two devices intuitively by getting each to recognize the other through easy to work system menus. The maps, animation, and many other additional helps along with MSN Direct for big cities make it a really great GPS device to own.
