Best value in a GPS, if you travel to Europe, it includes all the maps. Be sure to get a 4gb micro SD card, and download and update all the maps. The recent update to Garmins site makes keeping your unit up to date very easy. There were two firmware updates, and North America and Europe map updates. The internal memory only has room for the basic installed maps, so be sure to have a fresh SD card in place before you download the maps. Lifetime traffic is great... And I figure that map updates are not as critical. I bought 4 of these to lend out to our Global Travelers from our office. I added all the corporate offices as favorites in one unit, backed it up and then it was easy to transfer the favorites to the other three. Be sure to check preferences, as by default, non-paved roads are set to avoid. I am very happy with the unit, it finds sats very fast, quick boot up, and lane assist works great too.
Used in USA, England, Germany, Austria, and Holland. Never got it to lock uo to satelite in England. Worked well in other countries.
Real life saver. Audio steer Commands more useful than map.
Garmin uses the least useful name for streets and routes. If it is HWY 75 in Dallas they will call it North Central Expressway. Fine if you live there. It gets worse when Garmi is giving you an english pronounciation of a German or Dutch local name. The map and audio commands should use route "numbers" instead of street "names" which are often not posted.
You save time and frustration by following the turn commands and ignoring street names.
The touch screen, like most, is poor. Finaly got mine calibrated to take inputs from most of the keys some of the time. On a hot day half the keys are dead. Put it in front of the AC vent for 5 minutes and it usually comes back.
GUI is clunky. Better stop yuour car if you want to change something.
In spite of Garmin's quirks I wouldn't part with it. It is a real asset when traveling.
I bought this device because I went US and Europe so I needed a good road guide for my wife and I while we were traveling. Our experience was great, except a fill places that hasn't updated maps. Problem solved by updating it on the internet. It was necessary a MicroSD chip with at least 8gb.
Plus, here in Brazil I bought map update for Latin America, so I have road directions to Europe, North America and Latin America in only on device!
I found U$ 189,00 a little bit pricy, but it's the average price to this gadget and was bought from a very high qualified seller.
+ easy to use, good touchscreen accuracy
+ fast GPS lock
+ good screen brightness
+ has Europe and US maps
+ has USB for accessing the device and charging
+ comes with car mount
+ lots of features
+ lifetime map updates can be purchased
- lifetime map updates are not included
- USB Port is on the back and not well placed, the side would have been better although the cable "acts" as a stand on a flat surface so the GPS is upright. Upside is the cable isnt visible that much in the car will charging... so "-" for the placement by usage and "+" for optics
This is my second Garmin. I love everything about this GPS. It is portable, lightweight, has all the features that I use to include text to speech, pedestrian mode, bluetooth, lane assist, and more. I needed a GPS with European maps because we are in the Army and will be stationed in Germany next month. We plan to travel so this will make our trips easier to plan.
