This is a great GPS. I bought it to replace of my old unit & found there is a huge difference between the two.
a) performance - performance to detect the satellite signal of 1350 is very good. It detects the signal within seconds as compared to my old one, which sometimes takes more than a minute.
b) design - it's slim, good looking and well built.
c) When you switch on/off the engine of the car, the unit will automatically switch on/off if you connect it to the car charger My old unit does not do that. The battery will drain if I forget to turn off the GPS,
d) The interface - It is simple and user friendly. Great functions and features.
Having said that, there are things about the unit that I dislike.
1. I am from Malaysia. I bought this GPS from eBay cause it is about USD120 cheaper than Malaysia. I l found out later, if I were to buy Garmin that is not the Malaysia version, it would have no Junction View feature. I found this absolutely absurd. Why the double standard? Who is Garmin trying to protect, the resellers who try to sell at a higher price or the consumer who is buying Garmin?
2. Malaysia, due to its enthusiastic mapper community we have produced some custom icons on the map. The icons will display logos of banks, restaurants, fuel stations, shops on the map as you travel. I found that is an exciting feature cause it provides a lot of details the location you are at. These custom icons were supported in the older version of Garmin e.g. 205, 255 or 255w, but was not available in 1350.
I think Garmin should overcome these shortcomings.
awesome, great device wide screenPersonal navigation devices are designed to be portable. But the small screens which pocket friendliness entails can be a little hard to read. Larger devices are available, but they're not common, and usually priced according to their size. Garmin clearly intends to change all that with the nuvi 1490T. Where most widescreens have a 4.3in diagonal, the 1490T's extends to 5in. Despite its large screen, the nuvi 1490T is not particularly hefty or fat. In fact, it's no heavier than TomTom's GO 740 LIVE, a mere 4.3in widescreen device, and a little bit thinner. The screen mount is a simple suction cup and clip system, leaving you to connect the mini-USB-based car power adapter. The latter also incorporates the necessary aerial and FM receiver hardware for picking up RDS-TMC updates, a UK subscription for which the 1490T includes. Garmin has given its interface a mild update, for a slightly cleaner appearance. This wasn't strictly necessary, as Garmin's design is about the most logical on the market, with a clear hierarchy between the features you will use all the time and those you will call upon less frequently. The most amusing update is the section where you can change the car icon. This looks like a large 3D showroom, with a ceiling spotlight picking out your current selection. Not exactly useful,
Garmin is a good brand name, especially their wonderful after-sale support, if you need it. The product is functioning well as expected. The screen is bright and the image almost perfect. Garmin is known for the ease of use or user friendly. I like the speed limit reminder, the "eco route" and the FM lifetime traffic. At this price, I expect it to support bluetooth but this model does not. I did not like the bulky car charger cable. The window suction cup is easy to use but if a car ventilation hookup is included, that would be even better. Hope this helps.
OK first let me say YES this will get you from point A to point B fairly well BUT,,,,
My 2 biggest disappointments are,,
1) I would have thought being able to store pre-plotted routes would be GPS 101 but NO you can not store routes, just Favorite places. So if it routes you an odd way you just have to live with it or add via's each time.
2) DO NOT USE GARMIN UPDATE!!!! I could use any mini USB power supply to run the unit UNTIL I did a Garmin update for the OS, now you can ONLY use a Garmin power source,, NOT COOL GARMIN!! My real issue here is the cord for Garmin power supply is thicker than what I was using and doesn't lay/hang as nice especially on my "T" unit. The traffic feature is not within the unit but the power cord, this thing looks like small jumper cables, not friendly at all.
This is NOT a fluke I have 4 of these units and all 4 did the same thing. When Called, Garmin tech support was of no help at all,, mission accomplished now they sell more power supplys.
Sliding the map view around with your finger is frustrating as it just isn't very good at it. It either won't move, moves too far (like a whole screen from where you stop your finger) or it will think you pressed that spot and pull up info on that location.
Someone mentioned that it shuts off when you turn the key off, none of mine do this, my guess their power source works with the ignition and isn't constantly on.
Other than what I have said the unit is pretty intuitive to use and for what I paid not a bad purchase.
Heads up though the new models coming out will have the ability to store routes (up to 100)
I suggest looking at all the features on Garmins site, know what they mean to you and compare them to models, had I done my homework properly I would NOT have the 1350/1350T.
And,,,,,, DO NOT USE GARMIN UPDATE!!!!!!!!
This product works the way it should. Having a GPS that details local busineses, restaurants is great. I was familiar with Garmin products, and this one fills the bill. I decided to buy it through eBay because I had inspected the product at a a brick and mortar retailer and liked it. The eBay price being $56 less expensive with free shipping and no tax appealed to me as much as the features.
