This is a good unit for use with after market software that shows property ownerships. The functionality is average and there are some funtions that the Lowrance does much better. But, as Lowrance does not release their program lanuage for developers the Garmin is the only way to get aftermarket sowftware. The size and battery life of the Garmin are very good.
The Garmin Oregon 400t is an excellent GPS unit. It is extremely tough and durable. Excellent for hiking, geocaching, and many other things. Since it has a Micro SD slot it can be converted into a Road GPS unit, or even lake and ocean GPS as well. I would highly recommend this unit to anyone who is even remotely interested. True it may be a little pricey. But it has so many features and it is so easy to use. It will be a GPS you can use for years and be satisfied. With all of the built in memory...you can store your favorite points and geocaches as well. Again I would not settle for anything less then this unit.
Works very well, The touch screen is right on. Very accurate GPS. I have not used it yet for geocaching, but plan to this spring and summer. I loaded City navigator software in on a 4 gig card. Door to door directions works well, clear screen. Only issue is screen could be a little brighter. No problems when plugged into cigarette lighter. Garmin is the only GPS I would buy. I have had a lot of them over the years. I just wish they would give you everything you want in one device. They always leave you with wanting a feature that another unit has. You just cant get it all from them. This one is pretty darn close though.
This GPS, I bought for my husband to update an older version. This one has all the bells, buttons and whistles, he needs..He is an outdoorsman and these are so handy in his line of work. They are great for hunters, hikers, fishermen, whatever. If you are out in rough territory, esp., this keeps track of where you are, and has maps, to log your route, and mark the places you have been and also, if you are the type to get lost, this can help you find your way out..a very good investment!
The problem is it is not easy to use with some mapping programs that he uses. that is the only major fault there is with it.Documentation for mapping, though is totally inadequate. You have to find other programs on line in order to use it.
I had a problem with mine when I first purchased it here on ebay - it seems the seller didn't relize the base map was missing. I would not mention this but it seems to be something alot of people do is to erase the base map.
Used Gsak to get it loaded up with geocaches and out I went. So after locating my first cache of the day I went to delete the cache off the gps and it can't be done. BUT you can hit attempt log and it gives you a 'found' option that works just fine to tuck that cache away in its own place! The more I use it the more I am amazed with it. I love the touch screen! I love the idea of having the whole cache info right there to read and the logs! Well worth every penny for such a high tech machine. I am anxious to find another Oregon 400t user and see how the 'tranfer a cache to another gps' works!
All in all this is by far the best Garmin I have found and reccomend it for anyone that loves Geocaching!
