I bought this to replace my TomTom since it was going to cost me $75 for a year of map up dates and I could buy this one with lifetime updates for less than $150. I have had it a little more than a month, and I miss my Tom Tom. Both have frustrating things about them, but the Tom Tom was easier to use. The Garmin has a bigger screen, but the Tom Tom had more information on the screen and it was easier to see the upcoming turns. The Garmin screen does have more options for customization, but doesn't allow me to put all the info on it that the Tom Tom does. The Tom Tom has you select the state you are looking for the city in, while the Garmin makes you look through a list of cites in different states until you find the one you want. All in all after having some time To get used to the Garmin, I would choose the Tom Tom if I had it to do over again. Unfortunately, I gave the Tom Tom to my daughter. By the way, there is no advantage to the traffic alerts that I can see so far. Going through Nashville recently, it never warned me about a major interstate closure or helped me get through it.
I bought this GPS because I my old one had 1996 maps and I also wanted the Real-Time traffic with Lifetime maps. This has the features I wanted and was a great price. Please be advised you have to register your unit within 60 days of first aquiring satellite signal in order to qualify for your Lifetime maps. A neat feature is that is shows a view of the upcoming road signs for exits and splits. Just found that kind of cool. This serves it's purpose and gets me where I want to go---that's all I need and I'm very satisfied.
Once I got to know how to operate everything this unit has been a real asset. I get the latest traffic updates and I avoid the traffic. It gives me my speed and the speed limit where I am. I'm discovering features I didn't know it had. Added an SD mini to increase info capacity. I have 2, one stays in the car and I use the other on my motorcycle.s

love this Garmin Nuvi 1450LMT. Lost no more:) Updated maps get me places that Google or Mapquest could not or other GPS systems that do not have lifetime map updates.
I love this unit. This is my third garmin and by far the best one I've had. It has a nice big display. The volume of the voice is much improved. Life time maps and traffic, It dont get any better. I strongly recommend this unit for price, functionality and value.
