This is A great horror film from Tobe Hooper
The Funhouse isn't the best horror movie ever made but it's definitely far from the worst.
It has some scares, some decent gore, and some alright acting performances. It's a classic in my mind mainly due to the fact that it stood out as one of the better films to come out during it's time.
Tobe Hooper does a great job creating a tense and scary atmophere.

Rent or Buy?: If you're not a huge horror fan this one is a rental, but if you're looking for a great low-budget horror film this one's for you.

A group of teenagers go to the carnival and mayhem ensues after they decide to camp out in the fun house. Sounds like the plot for a simple hack and slash horror, but it is actually a bit more than that. Time is taken to give the characters a little bit of depth, and much attention is given to the carnival atmosphere. The setting is used masterfully to add a creepy feel to the movie. Elements that are mysterious at first are revealed at the right time, and come together nicely to make the background story amazingly well rounded. The movie never lets you get comfortable, and will keep you in suspense.
The effects are dated, but they don't need to be more than they are. In fact, this would be one movie where the older effects add to the scariness and the story most of the time. The lighting is almost always low key, which I personally dislike, but works to give the movie a darker feel while enhancing the carnival after dark setting.
Overall, this movie could be a horror classic, but doesn't quite make it. It is a good movie and worth seeing if you like suspense and creepiness, but it fails to go beyond good at all levels.
I love how it isnt necessarily a serious horror film but it still keeps you jumping and just having fun with the movie. Tobe Hooper ftw
