I must have looked at 15 different cameras on here and Amazon, and I had a very hard time finding one that met the criteria I needed. I am a paranormal investigator on the side, and I was looking for not only decent resolution, but also small lightweight size, ease of use and something with a decent flash, as I need it to take pictures in the dark.
When I came accross this camera the first thing that caught my eye was it's overall design. The Z70 looks and feels very impressive. The camera body is made out of metal unlike most cameras which are plastic, which gives the camera a nice well built feel. The sliding lens cover, which also doubles as the on/off switch, slides easily and is easy to operate with one hand. Another design feature that I really liked, are the blue illuminated buttons on the back of the camera. I like this feature because it enables me to see the controls better in dark situations.
While its overall design really impressed me, there were a few things that I didn't like. The first being where the lens is located. The lens is located on the to left portion of the camera right where you put your index finger, and I found myself frequently taking pictures of my finger. Of course you eventually get used to this and remember to keep you finger out of the way, but it's not very natural feeling to do so. Another feature I did not like was where Fuji put the one touch movie recording button. They put it was too close to the shutter button, and if you have large fingers you will find yourself accidentally pushing the movie record button when trying to take a picture, which can get really frustrating. I have really small narrow fingers, and found myself still hitting the movie button. Why Fuji designed the camera this way is beyond me..I guess their designers had fingers the size of toothpicks, and didn;t think this would be a problem lol. Other nuisances I found were the battery compartment door, which has a very cheap tiny plastic lock with very little tension, and the a plastic tripod mount, which I think is redundant for a metal constructed camera.
Now as far as picture taking goes, this camera acts more like a 5 megapixel than a 12. I found some of the pictures very grainy, and underexposed. This is mainly because of the small sensor size, and where the lens is located. I also found that if not enough light enters the lens, or if the flash is not used when it is needed, a faint thin red line appears on the far left side of the picture going from top to bottom. I contacted Fuji about this problem several times only to get the run around from customer support..typical! The camera only has this problem maybe 5% of the time which makes it bearable.
One thing that really dissapointed my was the Z70's inability to focus in low light, which is terrible. Most cameras have this problem, especially when at the long end of the zoom, but this camera is worse than most, and it frequently takes a few setting adjustments to get by this. It's feature set is just mediocre, it's menu system is hard to navigate and it's movie mode whch is supposed to be HD is disappointing. Overall I will keep this in my ghost hunting case for nothing but taking pictures in the dark, which it seems to handle ok. Overall this camera looks really cool but Fuji really needed to upgrade the image sensor to match it's 12 megapixel capability. It's a decent point & shoot camera if you can get used to it's quirks, but don't expect too much for $85!
I bought the Fujifilm FinePix Z70 some days ago and was immediately impressed with the number of features available on this device. Fujifilm FinePix Z70 is perfect for carrying in a pocket and the battery has a pretty good lifespan. Very qualitative and beautiful device, camera make excellent pictures and video.
Overall, I'd recommend Fujifilm FinePix Z70 to all, who likes to photograph on the nature and at home.
I bought the Fuji-Film Fine-Pix Z70 camera three weeks ago and was immediately impressed with the number of features available on this inexpensive camera. It is a 12M-pixel camera, video camera, and many features to take pictures The size is perfect for carrying in a pocket and the battery has a pretty good lifespan. Overall this is a very good camera for this price with lots of features and a very good quality image and video recording.
The camera is very light weight and easy to use. Also, the picture quality is great. I don't like that sometimes the camera doesn't detect red eye. Overall this is a great camera and would recommend it.
I bought this camera to replace a Cannon that has took a major beating on motorcycle trails but is still working good. I wanted a fixed lens for reliability, cover for safety, HD vis capability, etc. Never owned a Fuji before but at $100 and all the features i decided to give it as try. I like how quick the camera comes on. Love the dedicated vid and shutter buttons as i do not have to change settings to go from vid to still. Initially I was disappointed with the stills. Anything white has a purple fog around it which is pretty bad. This was at 3M settings. I moved up tot he 6M setting and it seems better. played with the setting more and found some settings where the pictures are coming out good. the HD vid quality and sound are quite good. I am completely please there. The camera is very small and hard to hold. Your finger can end up in the picture pretty EZ at the lens is right at the top where you might hold. So overall I am happy with the cam. Lots of nice features for $100 camera, takes good pix on the higher setting, does great vid, is nicely designed and starts up quick. Time will tell if it is anywhere near as reliable as my cannon that has been a rock despite thousands of trail miles on a motorcycle and in the rain many times.
Good camera.
