This movie came out of pure demand, put on Paramount by the fans. It's one of the best in the entire
series and was, like the last one, supposed to be the last one ever. The story is significantly different
than the previous 3 films. In this one, a dead Jason revives somehow in a Hospital Morgue and goes
on a killing spree for the next 90 minutes. After Jason makes a few heads turn at the Hospital he then
makes his way back to Camp Crystal Lake. Along the way Jason stumbles upon the Jarvis Family, and
a group of genre-typical teens whom occupy opposing houses. This movie has the first rival character
for Jason. This guy seems to be hunting Jason, and uses his almost hitman like skills to protect the
Jarvis Family, including yong Tommy played by Corey Feldman. The acting is better than the previous
films, as are the video quality, sound and all around presentation. Harry Manfredini as always provides
some really cool music and Joseph Zito does a really great job as Director. I highly recommend this
film to any fans of Jason, fans of the Slasher and Horror genres and to fans of Savini-era gore.

How great is this movie? Ok by normal film standards, not very good. But by 80's horror standard this is a classic! Crispin Glover and Corey Feldman are in it, this installment actually pokes fun at the genre and it has all the cheesetastic horror cliches.
Boy drowns at Crystal Lake camp while counselors get it on. Boy's mother gets revenge, even on innocent bystanders. Mother gets killed, boy seeks revenge. He gets killed and then comes back, gets killed again and comes back again. We all know Jason's MO - sharp object, soft teenage flesh.
Just like the others, this series should have really stopped at this 4th chapter. Get this one and the first 3, after that just catch them on TNT or AMC, they play them around Halloween time.
Okay, so put aside all jokes about the fact that it was indeed not the final Jason film(not by a long shot). And also put aside the fact that I am reviewing a film that came out the year I was born, so naturally it lacks in special effects compared to today. That stated, it is in a way the "final Chapter", in that it was the last really good one in the series (Until the remake came out, which was awesome!). Jason dies in this one, and for the films that follow we get zombie, rotting, supernnatural Jason(and one imposter). The film is basically what all the films are; a generic group of sexy teens getting hacked to bits by a lake, but this film introduces a protagonist in young Tommy Jarvis(played by Corey Feldman). He becomes the central figure, sharing some unspoken outcast connection with Jason, and ultimately is Jason's undoing(or so by the title we assume). All in all, its a good 'un, and though some horror buffs will urge you to disregard all of the films after this one, I would urge you to suck them all up and enjoy. Its fun to watch hapless campers chopped up, and I'll watch anything they put out at least once.
Beside the fact that the screenplay is barely average, this allegedly "final" entrance in the Friday the 13th is a fun one.Nice twist with the Tommy Jarvis character, some gory SFX by über Effectmeister Tom Savini, nice unexpected camerawork by Joseph Zito. And a "DeLuxe Edition" with lots of incredible bonuses (which I like a lot). Too bad Corey feldman wasn't there to share his thoughts on the featurette. The related-bonuses (like “Lost Tales from Camp Blood Part 4” ) are for diehard fans but not really interesting...
The 5.1 remix isn't always good, and the image is somehwat average (but an improvement regarding the previous DVD). But overall, an excellent edition for the fans.
This is probably the second best Friday the 13th next to the first Friday the 13th. The effects are cheesy but fun to watch evethough the gore effects were made by legendary gore effects supervisor Tom Savini. I recommend this movie to all Friday the 13th fans to see Jason go on a rampage killing teenagers and horror movie fans.
