I really like this British story, despite the selfish uncle. The story is about a young orphan girl named Christina. She is adopted by her less than loving uncle(widowed)- for her fortune. She finds she has two male cousins in this new home: Mark (eldest), who loves the traditional culture of his father(fox hunting, fine dining, etc.) and William, who prefers designing and flying planes to the horses. Christina finds as she grows up that she is being groomed to marry Mark and that she is challenged by the younger son to think for herself. Meanwhile, the world is changing quickly around them all.
I loved the humorous and interesting characters her encounters along the way: especially - Dorothy, Sandy, and Fowler. This is truly a bittersweet journey for her as she grows into a loving and courageous young woman, despite all of her misfortunes. This video does a nice job of following K.M. Peyton's books. Needless to say, I enjoyed reading them, too. The video is not for little kids so keep that in mind: PG for adult situations.
My daughter and I have fond memories of sitting up late on Sunday nights to watch this series several years ago while she was still in high school. She sent me the DVD set for Mother's Day. I am THRILLED to own this set and it has been pure pleasure to watch it again and to catch those episodes that I had missed years ago. There are times when Christina is irritating and there are some cheesy parts to this but overall it is one of the best series I have ever watched on television. I recommend it for anyone, especially for mothers and daughters to watch together. I LOVE the costumes, the scenery, the English accents, the time period and the HORSES!
As both a horseman & a pilot I especially enjoyed this series. I is both accurate & entertaining and would recommend it to anyone.
++++++++AAAAAA++++++++++++++Brings back memories when I used to wathc it on PBS back in the early 80's
