This game has gone through a roller coaster ride since its inception back in 2010. This game received a lot of hype and anticipation from its loyal fan base of ffxi and new comers ready to back square enix on this new epic adventure. Unfortunately the game was rushed as the development team felt pressure from blizzard as they were getting ready to launch their new WoW expansion and with word of a new star wars mmo coming out they felt they needed to push the release. The release was without a doubt horrendous and many users quit after their 30 day trial period has expired.
After seeing the public outcry from fans and realizing there future cash cow was a bust, they made some critical decisions and made the game free to play for over a year and fired the original development team with the exception of Nobuo Uematsu and a few others. SE later promised that they were not going to give up on this game and they were essentially going to redo the entire game which is going to be released at the end of 2012 beginning of 2013 and at that time the game will be re-released and be available on the PS3. In the meantime however the game has seen a massive overhaul and is quite enjoyable to play now since its inception and quite a few players have returned to see for themselves if this game is playable. The general consensus by the population is that the development team is on the right track and many are enjoying the game in its current state and cannot wait for the launch of FFXIV 2.0, so if you are questioning whether or not to play this game keep in mind it is no longer free to play but it is cheaper than most games that incur a monthly fee after the 30 day free trial. Keep an eye on this one, it has major potential for those looking to get away from the WoW style mmo as this game is completely unique.
FFXIV Is an alright MMORPG as of now, there are still some bugs, but the dev's are on top of things. It definitely has a lot of potential, the graphics are beautiful, better than normal RPG's. Of course you need a decent machine to run it, but if you do have one you will really appreciate the landscapes. The only reason I'm giving the game a average score is because there isn't much to do at this point in the game, repetitive quests as of now they are all go kill X amount of enemy Y. The dev's did say more will come, there will be patches new implementations, more monsters, this than blah blah but I feel with all of the other MMORPG's out there to learn from and build from, including their own FFXI these things should be in there from the start.
I would have definitely stopped playing this game if they didn't just extend their "free trial" because of the vast amount of negative feedback, but I think I will stick around because of the fact of how responsive the developers are. If youre deciding on picking it up now, I'd say to give it a month and it will be really fun, but for now I play for a bit and find myself being done with the "allotted" amount of things there are to do rather shortly.
The game is alright. It's not much more than a glorified WoW for Final Fantasy lovers. There is very little help beyond the intro missions. I have no idea how to get any materials for the professions. The battle system is unique. Still very FF like with it's real-time turn-based quality. Running at top speed, there is a delay between attacking and when the damage is dealt. The graphics are pretty good, but that's about the best part of the game.
The subscription fee is on par with WoW, if you only plan on having one character. For those that like to have 5 or 6, I recommend that you take up a second job. $12 monthly fee, then $3.99 for each character thereafter.
this game is beautiful and free online for the time being. its rough and very demanding in game timing and will consume ur time for work to make things in this not so user friendly mmorpg. i do recommend for u guys to have a good comp to run this as for i never found a graphics settings so i acn play on my laptop which cant handle it.... so be prepared
This game is still in beta form. Key binding is all mess up and a whole of other things.
You can not have a adventure class and a trade skill on the same char.
The game makes you have a char for each class or trade skill you may want to have.
Makes you pay $3 extra a month for each char or trade skill char you make a month.
