| Erotic, amusing, and deeply moving, the Fifty Shades Trilogy is a tale that will obsess you, possess you, and stay with you forever. When literature student Anastasia Steele goes to interview young entrepreneur Christian Grey, she encounters a man who is beautiful, brilliant, and intimidating. The unworldly, innocent Ana is startled to realize she wants this man and, despite his enigmatic reserve, finds she is desperate to get close to him. Unable to resist Ana's quiet beauty, wit, and independent spirit, Grey admits he wants her, too-but on his own terms. Shocked yet thrilled by Grey's singular erotic tastes, Ana hesitates. For all the trappings of success-his multinational businesses, his vast wealth, his loving family-Grey is a man tormented by demons and consumed by the need to control. When the couple embarks on a daring, passionately physical affair, Ana discovers Christian Grey's secrets and explores her own dark desires. This is a summer must read. It is a romance novel on steroids. I'm on my second time through this series. The first time I read I wasn't sure I wanted to delve into the whole dom/sub genre. But after reading it I'm glad I stuck with it because the man/women relationship was evolving into so much more. I had to download the next 2 right after I read the first. It definitely was a HOT and JUICY read. It helped rev up the hormones in this 50 year body. Husband was not complaining.
I labored through the first book Fifty Shades of Grey. It got very old with Ana saying she can't believe she's with or doing something with or to Christian Grey on nearly every page for the first half of the book. The story started out interesting, but soon got very repetitive. I am halfway through Fifty Shade Darker, the second book, and it is even worse. Talk about angst. Ana is going over everything several times trying to figure Christian out. The sex scenes are way too many and not very exciting. I am detemined to finish the series, but have no desire to continue since it is just the same old and not very good writing at all. I will pick it up and read a bit and put it down saying to myself, get on with it! Instead of 3 books at about 530 pages each she could have condensed all into one book of the same 530 pages and would have held my interest a little better. But publishing is out to make the big bucks and we as consumers are left short changed and dissapointed. More later when I finally finish the series, if I can make myself do it.
I have almost finished the second book and am not going to labor over the third. James needs a thesaurus for the words Jeez, Oh My, delicious, oh crap, holy cow and so many other phrases that are stupid and overused. I forced myself through the second book and will not put myself through the torture of the third. I am off to read a real book by a real author and not waste my time on this nonsense. Watch for more reviews.
I'm not really into unconventional sex and S&M, etc but I am into romance and I was hearing such great reviews about this book so I broke down and purchased it. I am so glad I did, you just want to continue reading and reading and you can't put the book down. Once understand Christian Grey's dark side and why he is the way he is you are more drawn to the book and you hope and want Ms. Steele to actually "catch him" and make him want a "more" conventional relationship. The plot just continues to thicken with it's twists and turns and "firsts"...I can't wait to read the next book Fifty Shades of Dark to see what's in store for Christian and Ana, if ANYTHING at all!
The book does not live up to all the hype surrounding it. I would not recommend this book to anyone. Very obvious that it is a first novel by a mediocre writer. The plot (what little there is of it) is sketchy, at best. Basically, it is just a string of very graphic sex scenes describing the dom/sub sexual lifestyle, complete with a lengthy "master and slave" written contract.
The first book is so disappointing and poorly written that I have no interest in reading the other two books in this series.
The female character is not believable. It was impossible for me to imagine ANY woman being turned on by a man whose preference is for BDSM and inflicting pain on a woman. Realistically, Ana should have run away, screaming, in the opposite direction from this nightmare. Instead, she (supposedly) falls in love with this cruel, cold, and unfeeling man.
If you're curious about the book and want to read it, check it out from your local library. But, don't waste your money buying it.
I was not going to read this book, but curiosity took the best of me. I loved the book! Not only is easy reading but you can't put it down. I have already read the other two and loved the story line. I think the passion that Christian has for Ana is what I think most of us women desire to have in our lives. You definitely have to read all three. Great series!
