This DVD, "Feet of Flames", showcased Michael Flatley and his performance of "Feet of Flames" before 25,000 fans in London. I would rate this DVD as Excellent +++++ !!
In order to appreciate his talents, you have to go back to "Lord of the Dance". My wife and I saw a performance of Lord of the Dance in Lincoln NE last month. Michael was not there, since he had already retired. But you can see Michael's steady hand as a director of this show.
Then I got a DVD that showed Michael in his performance in "Lord of the Dance". His talents, dancing skills and the cohesive efforts of the entire troupe made Lord of the Dance a smash, box-office sellout.
Once you have seen "Lord of the Dance", you can compare it to "Feet of Flames". The two shows are similar in having the same dances, story line etc. The difference is the scale of the production. You almost have to take a quantum leap at time-warp speed to see how big this production became.
What really set this DVD apart is the quality of the picture, sound and editing of the camera shots. You get long shots showing the football-field length of the stage. You get close up shots showing the sweat beads on the dancers faces. You get the knowing looks on the dancers faces as they smile and wink at each other. You get the audience's reactions as they are entralled by the performance.
My favorite dance number was "Breakout", where the female dancers started out in their dancing dresses. Then when the dancing gets routine...BANG!! the girls rip off their dresses and reveals bras, panties and black nylons. I'm already falling in love with the petite flute player as she dances in her gold outfit. And I'm still chuckling over the new show segment, where a group of male dancers dressed in dark robes comes out and does a chant song in a mumble jumble language. Looks like a scene right out of Star Wars!!
I found the bonus section titled "Making Feet of Flames" really interesting. You get to listen to and understand the desire, the drive that Michael had in the production of this show. You get to see how Michael interacts with the dancers and direct the production crew in setting up the stage, costumes, etc.
I would recommend getting this DVD, "Feet of Flames". But to really understand it you have to go back and watch "Lord of the Dance". And if you are still hungry for more Irish Dancing, get the DVD, "Celtic Tiger".
Like Michael says on his website, "Fasten Your Seatbelts". Enjoy!!!
This is a really neat video to watch with a lot of different music and wonderful music. Truly amazing how good they can dance, and how it was choreographed. I would recommend this video to anyone who truly appreciates the art of dancing and music.
My husband and kids were reluctant to watch this DVD with me but once they heard the energetic music, they were captivated and watched it with me. In no time, my son was up and dancing. WELL WORTH the money and time. This DVD is VERY ENTERTAINING!
This is a great addition to the Riverdance collection. He is older and letting the other dancers have a go but it's still good to see the ego intact. Love Michael.
