As a seller of ASBESTOS related ads & books for lawyers to use in asbestos case litigation, I bought this title purely for education, expecting it to read like a factual news article--informative but maybe dry & dusty like the mineral itself. Instead I was pleasantly surprised--and riveted by the storytelling--part history, part human interest story, part expose', part important information about companies & products that use asbestos(and continue to use it today despite the known hazards). The author eloquently yet clearly spins a true tale of greed, intrigue, cover-ups and heart-wrenching glimpses into the lives of people affected by the "magic mineral" & it's death-dealing touch. The 7 hours of the audio disc went by quickly, and I'm ready to hear it again--this time with a notepad because there's so much information I don't want to miss a bit. I may just have to buy the book as well, but hearing the audio version is like having a kindly storyteller relate tales that you have a hard time believing could be true--somehow hearing is better than reading. Just thinking about the kids in Libby Montana playing on the dust covered sidewalks of their town learning to write their names by scrawling it in the asbestos dust, or playing on the piles of tremolite asbestos-laden vermiculite that was dumped on & near the kids sports fields makes me want to cry. This is an important work of non-fiction that you just wish wasn't true. It will make you wonder if you yourself have somehow been unknowingly touched by the mineral that takes years to manifest itself in illness, a slowly ticking timebomb that is always fatal. "Fatal Deception" is a story you won't soon forget.
This the true story of asbestos and the poor people of Libby Montana. This shows how a huge company like W.R.Grace screwed people out of everything they had and their lives. This also shows how the World Trade Center and how much asbestos there was in the buildings and the air.Highly reccomended.
