THE FAST AND THE FURIOUS is a nitro-burning joyride that makes outstanding use of special effects, innovative camera work, and a nonstop throbbing soundtrack. From the opening sequence--a high-speed, high-tech truck robbery--the film never drops below the red line. Roaring along at breakneck speed, Dom (Vin Diesel) and his crew meet on the streets of L.A. each night to show off their high-powered racers. When new guy Brian (Paul Walker) wants to add his fuel to the fire, he can't cough up the cash to race, but offers up his car as collateral. In their tiny jacked compacts, Dom, Brian, and Edwin (Ja Rule) burst into a high-gear race with Brian nearly beating perennial champion Dom. But in the final moments, he loses the race and his car. Brian's debt is quickly cleared, however, when he saves Dom both from the cops and from a potentially violent encounter with Johnny Tran (Rick Yune), a rival gang lord. Dom takes Brian under his wing--a decision that disgusts his gang but delights his sister Mia (Jordana Brewster). The gang never suspects that Brian is not who he seems: he is actually an undercover cop, and though he wishes otherwise, he's there to bust Dom for committing the armed truck robbery witnessed in the opening scenes.
'FIRES ON ALL CYLINDERS"! THEY'VE GOT THE ADRENALINE RUSH AND THE MEAN MACHINES, BUT MOST OF ALL, THEY'VE GOT THE EXTREME NEED FOR SPEED. ON THE TURBO-CHARGED STREETS OF LOS ANGELES, EVERY NIGHT IS A CHAMPIONSHIP RACE. WITH NITRO- BOOSTED FURY. DOMINIC TORETTO(VIN DIESEL), RULES THE ROAD TURNING ALL HIS CHALLENGERS INTO DUST. HE AND HIS REVEAL, JOHNNY TRAN (RICK YUNE) ARE THE BOLDEST, THE BADDEST AND THE BEST. BUT, NOW THERE'S NEW RAGE ON THE ROAD. THEY KNOW HE'S TOUGH, THEY KNOW HE'S FAST, BUT WHAT THEY DON'T KNOW IS THAT HE'S A SPEED DEMON DETECTIVE (PAUL WALKER) WITH ENOUGH DRIVE AND DETERMINATION TO COME OUT THE WINNER. WITH INTENSE FULL-THROTTLE ACTION, AWESOME HIGH-SPEED STUNTS, AND FULL-PEDAL TO THE MEDAL INTENSITY, THIS FAST AND FURIOUS ASSAULT PUTS YOU IN THE DRIVER'S SEAT AND DARES YOU TO EXCEED ALL LIMITS!
A magazine article about real-life car racing gangs for Vibe becomes this fast-paced automotive thriller from director Rob Cohen. Paul Walker stars as Brian O'Conner, a youthful FBI agent investigating a series of hijackings by going undercover with a street gang led by charismatic Dominic Toretto (Vin Diesel). Caught up in Toretto's world of gang conflict that is resolved in late-night car races, Spindler starts to sympathize with his chief suspect and falls in love with Toretto's younger sister Mia (Jordana Brewster). In the meantime, Spindler initially suspects the wrong gang of complicity in the crimes he's probing, while Toretto remains involved in a forbidden romance, à la Romeo and Juliet, with his girlfriend Letty (Michelle Rodriguez). The Fast and the Furious co-stars Ted Levine, Rick Yune, and Matt Schulze. ~ Karl Williams, All Movie Guide
Sure, the plot is beside the point, but with eye candy like this, who cares? Universal has produced a stunner of an HD DVD release for 'The Fast and the Furious.' High-quality video, a top-notch soundtrack and plenty of extras make this a clear winner for the format. If only there was a Dolby TrueHD track and better exclusive HD content, this would have been four stars across the board. As is, 'The Fast and the Furious' is great demo material, and a disc you have to watch at least once to see what your HD DVD home theater rig is truly capable of.
Its about an undercover cop infiltrating L.A.'s illegal street racing culture in order to track down a group of drivers responsible for a series of semi-trailer heists. As the evidence begins to point, Brian must choose between professional duty and loyalty to his new friends.
What the film is really good at are chase and race scenes, but the story involving an undercover agent and gangs who seem invincible is shallow, hollow and downright ludicrous.
I belived film is mostly for young kids, dreaming of exotic, racing cars. If you loved cars, seriously, then this is a great movie for you, otherwise just rent it.
