The Family Guy, Vol. 8

amily Guy's eighth season first aired on the Fox network in twenty episodes from September 27, 2009 to May 23, 2010 before being released as two DVD box sets and in syndication. It premiered with the episode "Road to the Multiverse" and finished with "Partial Terms of Endearment". The Family Guy series follows the dysfunctional Griffin family—father Peter, mother Lois, daughter Meg, son Chris, baby Stewie and Brian, the family pet, who reside in their hometown of Quahog. The executive producers for the eighth production season were Chris Sheridan, David Goodman, Danny Smith, Mark Hentemann, Steve Callaghan and series creator Seth MacFarlane. The showrunners were Hentemann and Callaghan.

The season received a mixed reception from critics, who cited a lack of original writing.[2] More positive assessments revolved around the "tail end of the season," which "threw out all its old conventions and tried something remarkably different."[2]

Season eight contains some of the series' most acclaimed episodes, including "Road to the Multiverse", "Something, Something, Something, Dark Side"[3] and "Dog Gone",[4] as well as some of the most controversial episodes, including "Extra Large Medium", "Brian & Stewie" and "Partial Terms of Endearment".[5][6][7] It was nominated for a Primetime Emmy Award for Outstanding Original Music and Lyrics.

The Volume Eight DVD box set was released in Region 1 on June 15, 2010, Region 2 on November 1, 2010 and Region 4 on August 18, 2010. Seven of the twenty-one episodes are included in the volume. The remaining thirteen episodes of the season will be released on the Volume Nine DVD box set, and the banned episode "Partial Terms of Endearment" will be independently released in Region 1 on September 28, 2010.

Family Guy Season 8 Review

I have loved all the seasons of family guy and this one was no different. The uncensored material is really awesome as it really brought the show together. I was very surprised by the karaoke part of it I thought it was going to only include 2 or 3 songs but it included almost every song I can think of since the inception of Family Guy.

I do not know why but the only thing I really dislike is the way the season discs are all in the same case. I prefered the older seasons where they were in their individual cases. I have had some trouble lately with other seasons for other shows where the disc holder clip at the top breaks due to usage or simple it being hit on something. I guess it conserves plastic but I felt the discs were safer that way.

I like the cover, I think they could have done a different approach with it since that episode they used as the cover was good but I believe Road to Multiverse cover would have been amazing and they should have shown LOIS! That part disappointed me I wanted to see what she would look like in that episode.

I loved the entire season and the episodes are great I would greatly recommend this to any Family Guy fans. I actually decided to buy it to complete my collection as I like to have full collections of many things.

This season 8 was a fine addition to the other 7 volumes.

Good but not great HORRIBLE DVD PACKAGE

I have been a fan of the show since it's ORIGINAL debut after the Super Bowl in 1999.

Course, how they have done the DVD releases it is NOT right that you can NOT get a complete season in 1 DVD package.

The episodes in this DVD are NOT up to normal "Family Guy" standards. No stand out episodes. Only a couple of episodes "Fox-y Lady" & "Brian's Got A Brand New Bag" have jokes I want to rewind to see again.

Uncensored. Unlike when they just slapped curse words in "The Empire Strikes Back" straight to video release where most of the curse words were just there because they could get away with it but they did NOT work. In Volume 8 they do work & go along with the story script.

Of these episodes notable for me "Three Kings" with the "Star Wars" figurine bit & of course Richard Dreyfess & the late Roy Scheider together again for the "Jaws" references. This episode aired of course after Roy’s death in 2008. "Family Goy" episode has 2 "Star Wars" saga references & also an "Indiana Jones" reference. The "Spies Like Us" episode "Spies Reminiscent Of Us" good idea for an episode & good to see Dan & Chevy were used.

Now, we can complain again the DVD makers went cheap with the horrible plastic cases. You have an episode list but not like in the older DVD releases you get NO information on that episode. Cheap plastic disc holders.

Normal extras on the DVD package.
