| Synopsis | |
| "Essentials of Oceanography" explores basic principles of marine life from an ecological and environmental standpoint. First-year college-level science students to learn about the how both astronomy and geology affect ocean life use this oceanography textbook. Alan P. Trujillo and Harold V. Thurman discuss basic science from the viewpoint of chemical oceanography, biological oceanography, and plate tectonics in this book. "Essentials of Oceanography" features colorful photographs and anecdotal information to keep the book interesting for students, as well as informative and educational. At the end of each chapter in this book are review exercises that can be done at home or in a classroom group setting. This oceanography textbook is 527 pages long. Prentice Hall's College Division published this book written by Alan P. Trujillo and Harold V. Thurman. "Essentials of Oceanography" also features a helpful glossary in the back of the book with a host of marine biology terms. "How do the oceans work?" To help students find the answers, Trujillo and Thurman present in-depth and rigorous discussions of oceanographic concepts and demystify the science for the non-science student. Their systems approach highlights the interdisciplinary relationship between oceanographic phenomena and how those phenomena affect other Earth systems. Scientific information from geology, chemistry, physics, and biology combine to illustrate how each of these disciplines relates to the ocean. This unique combination of rigor and accessibility has made Essentials of Oceanography, 10/e the best-selling brief book-and one of the best-sellers overall-in oceanography. Pearson eText gives students access to the text whenever and wherever they can access the Internet. The eText pages look exactly like the printed text, and include powerful interactive and customization functions. This does not include the actual bound book. âHow do the oceans work?â To help you find the answers, Trujillo and Thurman present in-depth discussions of oceanographic concepts and demystify the science even for non-science students. Let's cut to the chase. We all are buying this book because it's required reading for the class. The biggest difference between this edition and previous is the page numbers vary by 2 or 3. Text book makers do this to guarantee revenue.
My instructor at Indiana University required the text but most is done via on-line and power point. I've discussed with her and it is almost always o.k. to save 80 bucks and buy the previous edition used. The material does not change.
Ultimately it's a great book and worth the money if your interested in the material, plus you get the login i.d. to access the web page - which is pretty useful for test prep.
Text books don't carry the same weight they used to because EVERYTHING in them is available now on line in some way. But text are still more versatile, and you've got to buy it anyway.
