) I have escort passport 8500 X50, it's a refurbished item. I've been using it for a couple weeks now and I'd say it does get a pretty good range on K-band which is mostly used on road sign radar etc. I've encounter a highway patrol a few miles ahead as far as my eyes can see and this didn't warn me at all. I was running it on Auto Mode, not really sure if Highway Mode would have much better range. So glad I didn't get a ticket that time, it was the car next to me. I've done research in my state that LASER or LIDAR is currently use on highways/ KA band is use too. I guess Bel STI driver or Escort Redline would've had better chance detecting a few miles away due to their long range capabilities..I don't usually over sped but in some cases I would go over 5 to 10 miles over the limit just going by the traffic flow in my area. I probably wouldn't even feel the difference especially cars this days are built for speed, for most sporty coupe out there.

) Very good distance in detection, good audible and visual alerts, easy to operate, just a great unit over all. However, it does false a lot of the time, even in Auto or city mode. Falses more than I can appreciate, sometimes does not detect on startup until calibrated, and No voice alerts. However, it's the perfect radar detector for people on a budget that will do what they need it to do.
I would advise to purshase the Escort passport 8500

The product is very good and precise with all bands of radar. The early warning system is outstanding. I recommend to upgrade the firmware to have update to date device. I am very happy with this device both in the city or highway.

Top of the line radar detector, but not the best either! Works good, the display is ri'h and bright! The false alerts leave something to be desired. I would recommend this if your not overly picky!
