Reason for purchase: The printer that I had was an Epson ActionLaser 1400. A particularly archaic piece of machinery. That printer lasted my family and me quite a long time (and a few States). In other words, I figure that Epson is a pretty decent [printer] company. All of that said, I really didn't want a common (cheap) Lexmark.
I'm not entirely sure what all that I like about this printer. From what I came from, anything was pretty much worth it. This has a scanner/copier, it prints (and in color), and apparently you can print directly from a camera (if it supports PictBridge?).
The scanner is probably only slightly above average. (I am a little picky, but I like to play in Photoshop, so there is not much of a problem for me.) If you don't like to play in Photoshop, then Epson has a scanning program that will restore (or attempt to) your old/faded/worn photos. All in all it will scan for you, make an image and do it well enough... I am quite happy with the scanner.
It prints at a pretty good speed. I am used to my old ActionLaser which was real quick (one page after the other after the other, etc.). However, not being a laser printer, and being a color one, it goes pretty quick. As far as the ink cartridges go, my only advice is to buy those on Ebay also. They are quite expensive in the stores ($21.96us for one black cartridge at WalMart). Other than that, they reproduce actual images very well and fast; I am very impressed with the image printing.
I am sorry, but I do not have a camera that supports this printer, nor do I plan to purchase one. I really can't help ya' with this in a review.
For a printer, it's good. For a scanner, it's good. Placed together, I am quite pleased with my purchase.
Read many reviews before buying as I do with everything. Based on editor and user reviews this seemed to be the best printer to replace my other Epsons which were getting old and unreliable. I had the Epson 600, 700 and 750 for my previous professional photography work which at the time were great but the technology of the new printers (in this case an -all in one-) makes my new work 100% easier and much faster (not to mention much much quieter).
I would recommend the Epson Stylus CX4200 without any reservations.
The printer is a good value for the money. I love that all the ink cartridges are individual. You only have to change the colors that you need. It was fairly easy to set everything up. Though I did need to call Epson b/c the set-up disk that came with the printer was not working properly. But the tech support at Epson was wonderful. And they walked me through step by step of what I had to do. If your looking for a printer/scanner/copier that is reasonably priced, and has all the features of more expensive models, this would be a good choice for you!!
I ourchased this printer mainly because the replacement ink cartridges are the least expensive of any other printer on the market. I was ablt to purchase this printer for about the samer money as it would cost me to replace the cartridges on my pervious printer. I pruchased an Epson for my winter residence in Florida for the same reason.
I like that the epson printers have been around awhile and have a good website and free help. It is also easy to find inexpensive to find ink online for them too. Look at inkblvd.com, if you sign up for their email, they will send you coupons also. :-)
