Known to his fans as the "King of Rock n Roll," Elvis Aaron Presley (1935-1977) had quite a lot of living to do in the relatively short time he was alive. What this 2003 multi-volume DVD box set contains is one of the most complete documentary collections about Elvis.
Few people realize that the film career of Elvis Presley began with "The Pied Piper of Cleveland: A Day in the Life of a Famous Disc Jockey," in 1955, when he was barely 20yo.. He performed "That's All Right, Mama", "Mystery Train" & "Good Rockin' Tonight." Within 2 years, Elvis stormed Hollywood with
"Jailhouse Rock" (1957). He performed "Young And Beautiful" (uncredited), "I Want to Be Free" (uncredited), "Don't Leave Me Now" (uncredited), "Treat Me Nice" (uncredited), "Jailhouse Rock" (uncredited), "You're So Square: Baby I Don't Care" (uncredited). Uncredited???...Hmmm.
Elvis would go on to make appearances in over 300 filmed performances in 22 years!
This series of documentaries starts at his early stage of performing in Memphis, Tennessee, through every other stage of his musical & film career. This series chronicles how Elvis' status sky-rocketed from an every day guy to one of the most beloved crooners, charismatic performers & actors of the 20th century, until his life was cut too short in 1977. Among Elvis' most ardent following, there are those who still can't believe he's no longer alive!
Included in this box set are a toal of 16 hour-long segments that include personal interviews about Elvis from over 200 people who actually knew the somehow immortal man so well. They include co-stars, employees, fans, friends, girlfriends & a host of musicians.
What's more (and perhaps best) are the restored film clips from feature footage, very rare home movies, photographs from private collections & a variety of extras that are bound to please. There are the 16 films:
1) "All the King's Disciples: The Fans"
2) "A Man and His Music"
3) "Elvis and Priscilla"
4) "Elvis and the Colonel"
5) "The Army Years"
6) "The Comeback"
7) "The Day the Music Died: Elvis is Gone"
8) "The Hollywood Years Part 1: 1956-1961"
9) "The Hollywood Years Part 2: 1962-1969"
10) "The Intimate Loves of Elvis"
11) "The Many Loves of Elvis"
12) "The Memphis Mafia"
13) "The Memphis Years"
14) "The Spiritual Soul of Elvis"
15) "The Television Years"
16) "The Vegas Years"
To insure that this box set would be the most comprehensive to date, with the utmost authenticity, Elvis' spiritual advisor & friend, Joe Esposito, is the Executive Consultant of this entire project.
Highly recommended to anyone & everyone~
