Electro -Voice 635a...
Created: 01/19/10
Great for broadcast (an industry standard - just watch your evening news and you'll see some poor sap in the field with one!).
Works well for spoken word and narration. Can be used for live sound if you are careful with your gain, speaker placement, etc... on second thought, just use an SM58 or SM57 (cardioid - UNI-directional). 57s have been the choice of the White House for forever.
It is omnidirectional but the high end does get directional after about 500 Hz.
If it sounds good to you, use it. Seriously, try it on anything and don't forget to try to move the mic around if you don't immediately get the sound you want; a little movement can make-or-break great tone.
Best-o-luck!

EV 635A

It is the best microphone for my husband's studio; it is very durable and can be used for recording almost any voice, and almost any musical instrument. We buy them whenever we can afford them. In my opinion, a recording studio can never have too many of these.

EV 635-A Professional Mic

The EV 635-A has forever been a standard in the broadcast industry. Great sound and it "takes a lickin' and keeps on tickin'." You can drop one of these off a cliff and still have a working (albeit banged up) piece of equipment. I carry a pair of these in my remote recording bag. I record radio program segments in the "great outdoors" and often find myself miles from anywhere. I require broadcast-quality sound and RELIABILITY. You can spend a helluva lot more money and not have near the microphone.

so nice mic for a drumset on stage with 1 or 2 in overhead and it's so natural and easy sound result.
