"AN EDUCATION offers a thrilling new star and remarkable actress in Carey Mulligan..."
Rolling Stone - Peter Travers (09/17/2009)

Wall Street Journal (10/09/2009)

"AN EDUCATION is brutally candid about class in ways that never feel didactic or heavy-handed. It captures with tenderness and wit the exquisite ache of growing up..." -- Grade: A-
A.V. Club - Nathan Rabin (10/08/2009)

"[A] transporting, ruefully tender coming-of-age drama....The movie, in a palette of cloudy blues, is adapted from a vivid memoir by British journalist Lynn Barber..."

A 1960s Love Story

Some may find this story disturbing as it involves a relationship between a young girl and an older man. However it is important to understand that in many cultures relationships such as this took place and actually still do. The relationship in this story is not about judgement, it is about sharing an experience that took place many years ago when such things were not as frowned upon as they are now.

Carey Mulligan is a 16 year old student destined for great things until she meets an older man (played by Peter Sarsgaard) then suddenly nothing else matters to her but their relationship. All the while her parents, teachers and friends question her judgement about the relationship.

The story is about young love in the 1960s England. It is about how one girls life is suddenly changed when she meets and is charmed by a man who lives in a world she has only dreamed of. The movie is very well directed and the acting is above average.

Additional Cast members include: Alfred Molina, Cara Seymour, Dominic Cooper, Emma Thompson, Matthew Beard, Olivia Williams, Rosamund Pike, and Sally Hawkins

The movie is rated PG, for suggestive scenes. This movie is not for everyone so use your own judgement.

Review of An Education

Review For: An Education (DVD, 2010)

This is an interesting movie. Set in 1960's England, it really captures the feel for that time period. Carey Mulligan is dominant. She'll have an Oscar, or two, one day. She shines in this movie, with a spectrum of emotions. Peter Sarsgaard sets aside his stateside accent to credibly portray his character. Rosamund Pike, a brilliant lady and fine actress, shines as she portrays a dumb blonde. Pike and Mulligan were both in Pride and Prejudice. And also worth noting is Olivia Williams, who has an interesting role as a teacher. Ms. Mulligan's character, Jenny, grows from little school girl to and educated woman... just on the edge of troubling, this is a movie worth watching.

An Education

Yes, I would recommend this product to a friend.
Review For: An Education (DVD, 2010)

A suburban London teen finds her traditional education replaced by something slightly more sinister when an older, more worldly suitor sweeps her off of her feet while placing her future in jeopardy. London, 1961: 16-year-old Jenny is smart, attractive, and eager to start her adult life. She's grown tired of the familiar adolescent routine, so when urbane newcomer David appears in town, Jenny senses a rare opportunity to shake things up a bit. Quickly falling under David's spell, the impressionable Jenny begins accompanying her newfound beau to classical concerts, art auctions, crowded pubs, and dinners that stretch into the small hours of the night. Although it is slow, it is a large array of emotions. It is deep, emotional, beautiful, and heartbreaking. Set in 1960s England, 16 year old Jenny is caught in a whirlwind of the "Adult life". She is torn between the adult world and her childhood, and her scholarship to Oxford. Peter Saarsgard and Carey Mulligan are fantastic. This is such a good movie, but it's definitely not for everyone.

Great movie! Better than I expected!!

Review For: An Education (DVD, 2010)

I kept seeing and hearing previews about this movie that I had never even heard of. So, I decided to rent the movie. But, I dont have Netflix or any of the cable channels that offered the movie and finding a Block Buster has become almost impossible! Bought the movie on Ebay. It came right on time! This movie was very well executed! Right down to the casting and details of its era. This story was totally believable and something that mature female young adults and the parents of mature female young adults can relate to. At first, I was a little on the edge, not knowing exactly what to expect from this type of film. But, I must admit to being pleasantly surprised at the outcome. Totally understand now, for myself, why this film got so much praise!

A++++++

I loved the beauty and grace which Carey Mulligan displays throughout the film---Like a young Audrey Hepburn. Her elegance illuminates the rollercoaster of emotions which this movie takes you on---remembering the beginnings of your first love and how empty you feel when it disappears. A beautiful story!
