I absolutely love Eat 'Em and Smile. The combination of David Lee Roth's creative talent, Steve Vai's virtuoso, fun guitar and Billy Sheehans kicka** bass makes for a truly ALL STAR band! I love the creativity, the variety and every song on this album! I wish David Lee Roth would do more solo work like this!
Before his recent reunion with VH, there were some rumors about reuniting DLR's "Eat'em & Smile" band w/Steve Vai, etc. To me, this is the Diamond one's peak as a solo artist. With nary a weak track and a few that rank up there with his best w/VH (Yankee Rose, Tobacco Road, I'm Easy). If you are new to the DLR catalog, look no further, this is the place to start.
When I last had this it was on LP. After the joke that was Van Halen's thoroughly wasted performance at the US Festival, I ceased to be a fan. Eat 'Em & Smile gave me reason to see David Lee Roth live again. With musicians who acted professionally and played better than Van Halen and excellent songs to match, I couldn't help but get this on CD to add to my iPod. For some strange reason, iTunes only has the Spanish version of this album.
