Double Dribble, known in Japan as Exciting Basket (エキサイティング バスケット?), was the second basketball arcade game developed and released in 1986 by Konami, following Super Basketball. Much of the game's popularity came from its animation sequences showing basketball players performing slam dunks, as well as The Star-Spangled Banner theme during attract mode, which was the first arcade game to feature the national anthem. These were uncommon in video games at the time of Double Dribble's release. While successful in the arcades, the game became and remained popular and remembered when it was ported to the Nintendo Entertainment System in 1987.
Double Dribble was followed by a sequel titled Double Dribble: The Playoff Edition, which was released in 1994 for the Sega Genesis/Mega Drive. A remake titled Double Dribble Fast Break was released as an online exclusive, which is based mostly on the NES version; however, the animation sequences were ripped from the arcade version

Double Dribble for NES

This game was released in 1987 by the Japanese game masters from Nintendo although this is a USA release. This is not only the best basket ball game of the 1980's but it still stands the test of time in my oppinion. I give this game a -B I'd give it an -A but the Graphics are a lil' lite....: ) I do recommend grabbing yourself a copy to take it back to the OLD SCHOOL

I remember playing this game as a kid like most people my age. That is what drew me to this game again. When I turned it on; it provided a direct link back into a portion of my brain that held memories I had forgotten about. It took awhile without the instruction book to figure out the full complement of offensive and defensive options but I was soon stealing, blocking and passing the ball with great efficiency. The half time show was something that I had long forgotten about but I remember my buddies and I just laughing and joking about the pixelated cheerleaders and mascot that ran across the screen. Cheesy? Yes. Bad animation? For the time, no but man what a trip down memory lane. It was fun to play and easy to pick up again. I look forward to playing Double Dribble with my kids.

Just Like Old Times

Every bit as fun as I remember growing up. So simple, yet so fun. From the slow motion dunks to the 3 point bombs, this game shines. The only bad thing is there's only 3 teams to choose from, and no season mode. The lack of teams doesn't really matter because there are no player names or stats anyways. As an added bonus, the difficulty levels are actually pretty challenging!

This game is a classic NES sports game. Must have for a true Nintendo gamer. Best played in two player mode. Of course it has old school graphics, its an original Nintendo game from the 80's. While old school, the dunking graphics are above average for its era.
