I purchased this Digital Prism ATSC-300 3.5" LCD television. I was not impressed with the reception this TV provided but we do live in a rural area and was afraid it might not get very good reception. The few channels it did receive had a excellent picture. I would recommend this to anyone living in the city but not in the rural area.
I received the Digital Prism Portable TV a month or so ago. The FM Radio is great with perfect reception. However, the TV reception is absolutely horrible. After I first took it out of the box and played the radio, I scanned for the TV reception and it picked up only two (yes, 2) channels. Channel 38 and some olympic-style sports station.
This TV is basically no good and I'd never, ever purchase this brand TV again.
This little handheld TV is an excellent companion when camping or hiking. I live in the sticks (about 100 miles from the TV antennas) so I have no rexeption here, but in other areas closer to the antennas or in better line of site, this little unit is terrific. I wish it had a provision for an external antenna and also that the FM radio would use the built-in antenna, instead of the earphone, which limits mobility for reception, but it is still a great unit for the price.
I bought this product to use as a small entertainment system for my car, and for that aspect it does work fairly well, the older style extend antenna does pull off a good reception and even in more rural areas where im from I still managed to get a decent picture. Now fair warning although some might advertise it as a 1080i LCD television, it is NOT high definition, so if that is one of the reasons you are buying this television, save your money and read below.
I personally dont know if the makers of this pocket TV were thinking this design through, one major drawback of this tv (unlike most portable flat screen manufacturers) is that this TV lacks an Audio In and RF jack!! This is practically unforgivable in a time where features even in the portable world are abundant. With this in mind, you are unable to use this tv as a gaming monitor in any way and even an old style RF wont fit to put say an extended antenna or hook in a cable or satellite feed.
Although this is a huge limitation, overall the tv has a great picture for its price and also has a decent battery life, (3 hrs the last time I used it) the controls are fairly intuitive and its easy to navigate, but then other limitations rear their ugly head. Another bad design flaw was requiring you to charge the battery a full 12 hrs before charging, now normally this isnt a problem for most, but it is when its to the point you cant even use the TV unless it has a charge. So if you drain it, 12 hrs till you can use it again. My suggestion is if you want to use the TV under power, you never let the battery go below 1/4 charge remaining.
In conclusion, this little TV is a good handy little tv for say viewing in the kitchen, or a ballpark, or a picnic, the brightness is good even in hard sunlight. But if your wanting to use this TV for something like a gaming monitor say for the kids in the back seat, or you want to apply an external antenna, you can forget it with this TV, it does not support even the most basic RF input. Your better served looking at either a more sophisticated portable, or even a cheaper tablet and streaming.
If you can find this TV at a reasonable price, then I suggest its good for what it does. But if your looking for a TV that can act as a monitor, take your money elsewhere, you could probably modify this tv to make it accept external input, but by the time you waste the parts and labor, your paying for a more full featured monitor. (ie: Philips, Eviant, Toshiba) all of those have better features and can be used for other purposes.
Radio has good reception. TV is difficul to get reception.I just listen to the radio,it would be cheaper just to buy a walkman. I will be more careful when buying anything from you next time. You want at least 100 characters for the review? Is this 100 characters yet? I'm disappointed with the item but decided to keep it any way.
