The Digitech RP355 is a nice little effects pedal. This is also a MODELING pedal, which can model various amplifiers, speaker configurations and pick-up's. Such as single-coil & humbucking pick-up. It's basically a glorified coil-tap, rack mount-type effect unit, with tuning, wah-wah, volume pedal, a drum machine and sampling built in. You can sample up to 20 seconds. The only difference is that it's not in a rack, you can manipulate it like any other guitar pedal, by stepping on the appropriate pedal.
There are literally hundreds of possible effect combinations, as well as amplifier & speaker configs. Some pro players may NOT prefer this, but this pedal is still great for both the pro & amature player player alike.
You can save settings as you adjust your parameters inside each menu title that comes up. There are 79 preset effect names. I say names because each setting (Metallica,Blues, Jazz, Crystal, Modded etc) has probably 1-5 effects on each.
Delay, Chorus, Distortion, Compression etc. you can adjust the levels of these to customize your sound.
I was shocked to realize however, that you cannot save your presets in any customized order though. you can save them, but they come up in a list as you hold each of the pedals down. There is also no ON/OFF switch. Just plug the unit in, and it powers up. These are the ONLY two things I DO NOT like about this unit. I think they are big flaws though in a live application. Not so much the on & off switch, but being able to switch back and forth between effects in an instant is a HUGE benefit in any LIVE application. I use this pedal exclusively for recording, so it is suitable for me. No problems at all!
Construction-wise, it's rugged. Made of steel, and not cheap looking or feeling. You can hook up to a mixer via XLR's or 1/4" jacks built into back of unit. It sounds VERY good running through mixer direct. No loss of quality, or sound like most direct boxes. It does NOT thin the sound AT ALL. What you hear through the speakers is what you get in the mix. I was amazed at that!! :)
I also don't want to scare any live players out there! If you are playing live, and you have a few seconds to switch effects between songs, this unit is more than FINE!! If you want to jump around with effects while playing live, and not miss a beat (or a measure or two in this case--lol) you better move up to the RP455 or higher.
Happy Strumming!!!
This is my 3rd DIGI-RP I started with a 80 for the Drum Machine function. Its great when you have to practice alone. Then Upgraded to a 150 to add the Wah pedal function. The 350 is By far the best Pedal I have ever owned it does the simulated amps and cabinets like it predecessors and it plugs into your pc via USB for doing so many things "Guitar worx", producing digital audio tracks, etc. It has a "Loop function that works great for the prelude of Cowboys from Hell"*by PANTERA. With its simple Layout it is super easy to use just step on the pedal til your axe sounds like you want it too. Want your axe to sound like Jimmy Hendrix,Jimmy Page,Dimebag,Eddie V trust me its in there. The Drum Machine is great for practicing or using for a 1 Man show. This pedal has more functions than pedals costing twice as much. Plus you have the Die-Hard dependability of Digitech I have owned 3 and never had a problem with any of them. Judging solely on Bang for Buck you simply can not do better the RP-350 it is a great mid-level pedal.
Digitech RP355 Modeling Guitar Processor
Bought for < $200 USD on Ebay
Was looking for something I could use for home guitar practice sessions with drum machine, looper, tone effects, and not too expensive, and not too complicated to use. This fits the bill. If you are starting out, you don't even need an amp, as headphones can be used. Has tuning function and expession pedal (defaults mainly to a volume pedal for the presets, but other parameters can be assigned). I personally like the Digitech presets. The looper is adequate and easy to use. Digitech continues to use their matrix display found in other Digitech products, which looks complex at first, but is rather simple. Software can be downloaded for visually editing presets on your computer (This I really liked and found to be fast and efficent). I haven't used the Cubase software computer recording application yet.
A few comments as to shortcomings - Looper would be better with longer than 20 sec duration. The drum machine function can not be used with the looper! No vocal outputs with this unit, although I did not buy it for this function.
Conclusion - You would be hard pressed to find another guitar processor with drum, looper, and preset functions at a comparable price. I like it a lot and may buy another for backup purposes!

I needed a pre-distortion volume pedal... so I decided that I ought to buy one of these for the additional wah distortion, and other effects I could get out of it as a bonus, for the same cost!
I'm quite satisfied, and the core reason is the X-edit application, which runs under Mac OS X (!) as well as Windows. I've also checked out the Line 6 pedals, and am baffled by the lack of an editor application: how on earth can you configure multi-effects units of this level of complexity using just the little knobs and buttons on the device without breaking your back? THIS MAKES NO SENSE.
X-edit makes configuring your patches radically EASY, while seated in comfort before your computer monitor, and allows you to save your configurations on your computer... just in case your RP unit bites the dust.
In other respects, it's a fairly nice unit. I wish that Digitech made switch assignments more flexible... but making setup "simple" is a design goal, and it's pretty well achieved here. I wish the unit had a MIDI control port, but well, *sigh*.
Some of the amp models sound OK, though not as good as a high-quality tube amp. YMWV. The acoustic guitar models are decent (a boon to me), and the A/B amp/EQ model switching is a godsend!
Th Digitech RP355 Multi-Effects Guitar Effect Pedal is a good pedal for the price for sure. The looper is one of the coolest features because you can record and then play along with your recording...
