|Venture into the bowels of hell itself to save a devastated town from a demonic threat in Blizzard's Diablo. Inspired by such early computer titles as Rogue and NetHack, Diablo is an action RPG with randomly generated dungeons, items, and monsters. Choose from a male warrior, female rogue, or a male sorcerer before exploring the dark and decrepit dungeons alone or with up to three friends online. Each fantasy archetype is individually rated in strength, vitality, dexterity, and magic, influencing your character's damage, health, armor class, and mana, respectively. The action is viewed from an isometric perspective as you complete quests and attack skeletons, goat men, gargoyles, and other vile creatures. Defeating enemies will grant you experience points as well as equipment of varying quality to improve your hero.|

I liked a lot of things about this game. First, it has a great soundtrack, especially once you're in the dungeon. The voice acting is pretty good and the other sound effects help build atmosphere. There are a lot of really creepy areas and monsters in the game, and they are animated well. The map overlay was a good idea, since it allows you to play while seeing exactly where you are on the map. Regarding gameplay, most of the time you'll be clicking the mouse to move, attack, pick up things, and open menus. There is really nothing difficult to learn. The end fight was appropriately difficult, but not as insanely challenging as the final fights in Baldur's Gate 2. One really great thing about this game is that each time you start a new game the dungeon levels are redrawn and new monsters, treasure, traps, and other things are generated. There were a few things I didn't care for, but they are all together minor. First, this is not primarily a role-playing game. Diablo is mainly an arcade-style action adventure with some limited role-playing possibilities. You can only choose between 3 classes (fighter, sorcerer, or rogue); your stats are preset, although you can control how points are allocated between abilities during the game; and NPC interaction is very limited and more or less restricted to trading and quest-giving. Also, the town itself is small and static, and your character cannot carry much in his/her inventory. For anyone who hasn't played Diablo yet, it's definitely worth a look. However, don't expect it to rival games like Baldur's Gate or Neverwinter Nights in complexity, options, gameplay, or anything else. Again, it's good old hack-and-slash arcade action with a pinch of role-playing thrown in.
The upcoming Diablo III will see a whole new generation of fans drawn to this classic hack-and-slash series. For fans of and newcomers to the game, discovering the original Diablo PC game is a worthwhile exercise and this guide looks at the available characters of the original game
Brief Game Overview
It's now over ten years old, but the legacy that is Diablo lives on strong in the hearts of fans around the world. Blizzard Entertainmet, the company behind the Diablo game recently announced the eagerly-awaited Diablo III, but fans and newcomers of the Diablo series should first return to the original game in preparation for a whole new episode of hack-and-slash action.Set in the village of Tristram in the mythical kingdom of Khanduras, the original Diablo game featured three character classes; the warrior, the Rogue and the Sorceror.
The warrior is a powerful melee fighter, master of weaponry and capable of taking more damage than any of the other available classes. Warriors also gain a slight increase in the rate of strike with a melee weapon.
According to the background, warriors range from barbarians from the northern highlands to noble paladins.Warriors are able to repair the equipment they carry, but in so doing lowers the item's durability. However, as a warrior advances in level, the durability penalty drops.
The Warrior has a higher chance to hit in melee combat than other classes and is the only character to have a chance to cause a critical hit (which causes twice the original damage), as well as the best chance to block with a shield.
The rogues are essentially archers, and are relatively weak in hand-to-hand combat.
They possess a higher affinity to magic than warriors and thus are able to make better use of magic in their battles, although not nearly as well as sorcerers.
The rogues belong to a group called the Sisterhood of the Sightless Eye, and are the best archers in the world of Sanctuary.
The Rogue has the ability to spot doors, chests and coffins that might be trapped and disarm any traps found. The chance to spot and disarm a trap increases with the character's dexterity attribute.
When determining the damage dealt with her bow, the Rogue calculates not only her strength but her dexterity as well; this also govern's the Rogue's rate of fire, which is similarly effected in the way a warrior's melee attack is.
Mages are masters of the arcane arts and have the highest magical ability.
They are very weak with weapons and are not suited to close combat, preferring to rely on their magic to smite enemies.
With magic being their weapon, mages gain a slight increase in speed of casting a spell.
In Diablo, sorcerers belong to a mage clan, known as Vizjerei, and have come to Tristram looking to discover long lost tomes of magic knowledge that lie under the cathedral.
Mages can recharge magic staves at a similar cost as the warrior does with physical equipment, and similarly any reduction is lessened as the Mage advances in level.
The Sorcerer has the highest chance to hit with a magical spell, as well as having a faster spellcasting rate. Mages also gain more mana than any other class from items that improve Magic.
Some of us older Dungeon & Dragon player find game that remind us the college days. This game has you building a player character. You to town to buy supplies and find out the local gossip. You through exploring the dungeon looking for treasure and magic items. The map changes each time you restart the game. You must be careful until your character is strong enough to explore deeper into the dungeon. I would not recommend this game for small children. There some very disturbing graphics with bloody dead bodies found especially at the lower levels. The magic items are randomly generated. Many of the items are familar to D&D players magic rings, spell scrolls, potions, magic armor, gold pieces, spell books and many others. I got a copy to my nephew who loved it but the new faster computer cd player can destroy older cds. You might want to make a copy to play in your computer. The control commands are very easy to learn. Most of the time all you need to do is click. You can only save the game at one point at a time. It is important that you save often at lower levels. It seems that your character will die right after you find the best magic items. You need to rest your mouse hand. This is not the game for people with carpel tunnel syndrome.
The basic game has three types of characters a female thief, male fighter, and a man wizard. Each type has their own advantages and weaknesses. Operating the character is pretty much the same. You can run away from monster sometimes. The game takes many hours to complete. You finally meet Diable and kill him. It can take many tries to get done.
Diablo is a classic game from Blizzard that spawned countless rip-offs. Diablo is a hack-and-slash rpg, point-and-click, in which you are a wanderer that has come upon a village threatened by Hell's demons. You can choose from three characters emphasizing melee, ranged, and magic respectively but are not limited to any one skill. The game centers on this backwater village and you descend progressively harder levels of dungeons and caves until you defeat the source of evil plaguing the town. The game also has a great multiplayer function over battle-net, however, this area has always been ruined by hackers and cheaters as Diablo is so easy to hack. The graphics, although completely outdated now, were good on release. Overall, this game is quite fun, has a great soundtrack, and has great replay value, I would recommend it for any pc rpg fan out there.
This is probably the best game ever (next to Halo) I have ever played. If you are buying it for your child and they are not allowed the play games with violence then this is not the game for you. If you a game dude, like me, buy it now. It's spectactular!!! There is 16 action-packed levels and 3 character with a many different skills for each one. If you like this game get the other three.(Diablo 2, Diablo 2 Lord of Destrucion , and Diablo 3.
