I was curious to see this movie upon its release, in part to see how Jennifer Aniston would do in one of the more serious roles she has taken on in recent years and also as I think that Clive Owen is a great actor having been used to him as a regular on British Television from his days in the series "Chancer".
Critics seemed to pan this movie, so having lessened my expectations, I was pleasantly surprised and found this an entertaining, edge of your seat thriller there was an interesting twist, though for us, the plot did become a little too transparent and we were able to figure out the ending, well before its conclusion. That said, it was still interesting enough, that we wanted to watch until the end to see exactly how they would play out the scenes.
The movie does have some rough scenes, including a gritty, harsh rape scene and some violence - the premise being Owen and Aniston meet on a commuter train, develop an instant spark which leads down the infidelity path - but a violent thief interrupts their near first physical encounter by attacking Own and raping Aniston - this leads to Owen being blackmailed with no recourse.
It was an entertaining moive, with enough twists and suspense to keep me watching - sure it does not require much thinking to uncover the plot - but thre are still enough suprises to fire your interest and keep you watching until the end!!
Clive Owen stars as a man will a lot of stress in his life. He has a high pressure job, a very busy wife and a very sick girl. He meets Jennifer Aniston on a train one morning when he is late. They start talking things move quickly to them thinking about having an affair. Things go from bad to worst. This a thriller that keeps buiding until the very end. You will want to see the end of the movie. I do not want to decribe too much of the plot. It is not a funny move by any stretch of the imagination. It was shot in Chicago and myself being from Chicago they got it right.
The movie aside, Jennifer Aniston steps out of her traditional funny-girl role in this dramatic and not-so-suspenseful movie.
The movie wasn't terribly gripping, and it certainly was predictable, but Aniston gave a shocking and stunning performance as Lucinda Harris, a "powerful busineswoman".
Overall, the film was one of those anxiety stricken movies that demand your anger at the characters for their easily forseeable demise due to their ridiculous life choices. Some critics have said "thriller of the year".... I wonder if they were watching the same movie?
The unrated version put back some gratuitous sex scenes, and is none the better for it.
Kudos to Aniston, and shame on the director for insulting the audience with foreshadowing that tipped us off to what should have been a surprise ending.
When I first saw the reviews about "Derailed" I thought: "there is no way I’m going to see it". There is nothing funny about a comedy actress trying to be serious and as for Jennifer Anniston; she wasn't one of my favorites. I thought she stunk in the movie where she played a cashier. But one day while strolling thourgh the local video store, I saw it. I didn't even pick it up, I strolled past it; but, that week there wasnt much to choose from and so I thought: "why not just get it to see what all the bad hype is about"? Was I wrong. I can't believe it didn't get better reviews and I'm curious as to why it didnt. It was fantastic. I have been talking about it for days and the people I talk to about it feel as if they have seen it via me, but after they do see it, they feel the same way I do. "FANTASTIC". Jennifer did a great job.
Derailed was one of the best movies this year. Jennifer Anniston proved she could be a serious actress. She played a very tough role a far cry from her role on friends. She played a woman who at first thought is a vibrant, successful, lonely woman who isn't looking for love but finds it; then when you think you have her pegged, BAM the whole movie takes such a twisted turn it came out of nowhere. It took me by complete surprise, as it will you. It was frightening, suspenseful, edgy, tough, sexy, surprising, and touching all at once. She did a great job and she changed my mind about her as an actress. She wasn't given a fair shake when the "professionals" reviewed her in this movie. Go see it you wont be disappointed as a matter of fact you will be surprised, shocked and it takes you on a ride you wont forget for a while. If nothing else it will make you think real hard before you decide to have an affair. Great job Jennifer, you go girl.
Charles's (Clive Owen)life gets turned upside down when he flirts with a stanger (Jennifer Aniston) on a train during his morning commute. What seems like an innocent affair turns into a deadly game of blackmail and murder in this hot thriller. This is the best thing I've seen Jennifer Aniston in. She has real depth as an actress. I love the ending. Most movies are predictible this one wasn't.
