One of the things I like about this monitor is because it provides a number of tools that allow the users to make adjustment to the screen image, screen control (contrast, horizontal and vertical display control). This monitor will fit the needs of students, professionals, businesses alike. The screen display is crystal clear. The only thing I dislike is the fact that it is not that flexible, but then again almost 95% of monitors around the world lack flexibility the same way. Only now companies (monitor manufacturers) are starting to make monitors more flexible. Overall I give this monitor a B+ . It depends on what you're looking for in a monitor. The price of this monitor is decreasing quiet a bit from $800 when it originally came out to as less as $450 new, less than $300 refurbished and as low as $125 used. Those are suggested price just to give you an idea of how affordable this monitor is. Go for it, buy one as long as the price works for you (it's a great quality product, very well designed - it will last you a few years)
People always think a "Wide" Computer or TV display is better.
That depends on what you want to see on it.
Playing a DVD video or Blu Ray video (or even VHS tape sometimes) looks better with a Wide Screen display.
But to view normal computer stuff; or Cable TV (TV to SVGA adapter required); I like this standard Dell 17" display (not Wide) better.
At 17.0 inch diagonal; this Dell 1702FP looks bigger than my other Dell 19" Wide Display. The Dell 1702FP screen is 3/4 inch higher; not wider.
I am only annoyed that the Dell 17" monitor has a DVI input; which simply does not work (purchased $45 as used). The SVGA input is just as good; until your have a very large display. The human eye can only see so much.
This display has very high resolution for only a 13 3/8" x 10 3/4" screen. Therefore excellent clarity; very good contrast as well.
Dell UltraSharp 1702FP is an above average lcd with ample connections. I like the On Screen Display (OSD) but some might find it a little complex. DVI connection gave the best (sharper)picture quality.
I decided to buy the 17 inch monitor to replace the original small, bulky one that came with an old second computer I have. Despite being a used one, I am very impressed with the fast response, color, and clear images it still has. I have an approximately year old 19 inch monitor, (not Dell) on my #1 computer, and there is very little difference on the quality of the pictures. Controls are right there, easy to see and use. Stand does not take too much space and does not interfere while connecting the cables.
As you can tell, I am very pleased with the monitor.
I like the great color when watching tv on line. I bought the Dell Ultrasharp 1702fp because my computer is also a Dell and I could not believe the low price. I plan on getting a 22 inch of the same model in the near future. I have no negative review for this monitor
