I purchased a Sky Caddie SG4 in 2007 and it was good as far as the info I needed but I couldn't go another year paying a membership fee. So my research took me to the GolfBuddy World Platinum. One of my playing partners has one so I knew what I was getting. Golf Buddy really made it simple! It loads so much faster than my old one and never loses connection with the satellites like my Sky Caddie would. The color touch screen is just another addition to make it user friendly. If there was anything I could change it would be making the color graphics more vivid and prominent. Hopefully that is a software issue instead of a hardware issue and maybe one day could be enhanced through an update. I still think it's the best on the market at this time and give it a 5 star rating!
Haven't had much time with this but my initial use was very disappointing.
First, had to return a faulty one. Second, although the package clearly states it includes a CD there is none packaged...didn't find out until I called GB directly. You have to go to their site to download a manual which really sucks.
First use on a course was dismal. Kept thinking I was on the par three course almost 150 yards away. When I did get it to recognize pro course it kept bringing up the wrong hole. Tried to use the feature to indicate the actual shot distance and finally gave up. Had a difficult time showing the hole layout. And as far as display visibility even with sitting in a covered cart and hands cupped around device it was almost impossible to read. Finally turned it off and played without it. Very disappointed
Season's almost over for me so I'll try again in the spring.
I bought the Golf Buddy World Platinum first of all while there were no additional fees. Then also very important to me the number of golf courses available for download world wide.
The graphics of the holes are very good for the most part and are a must for a round at an unfamiliar course. It lets you plot lay up distances, yardage to hazards and almost everything just with a little tap to the screen.
The GB also lets you keep score and provides a little bit of statistical info.
The case is robust and easy to put in your pocket as well.
The battery lasts for at least 3 rounds of golf at my normal pace of play and usage.
I would highly recomend this gps receiver to any golfer any where in the world. Top Product.
this unit comes with 40,000 courses preloaded world wide a plus feature. the unit is easy to use after you get use to the unit, the display is good and easy to see and manuever. the unit can get confused when multiple tee box are close together or course has changed before upgrade was made. I think this is a very good unit compared to others on the market( cost & features ). I would recomend this unit to anyone looking for a gps.
I'd been using another GPS that required a membership. I didn't keep it up so when I'd go to a different course that wasn't stored, I couldn't use the GPS. I saw this unit and thought it would meet my needs. Overall, it is a nice unit. Unfortunately, the touch screen isn't very responsive. Entering a score is the biggest reason for grading it lower.
Calibration is useless in my opinion. I did it using my finger but things didn't seem lined up very well when trying to press a button. Even when pressing i the middle of the button it wouldn't activate. Trying to press one of the number keys was an adventure. Usually takes 3-4 pokes to hopefully get the correct number. I found a stylus and re-calibrated hoping that would make it more accurate and responsive. Nope, still an adventure to press a button.
If you want to use this strictly to get yardage, and a layout of the whole, I'd probably make it a 4 to 5 star. I love the fact that it immediately recognizes the course and hole with out doing anything but turning the unit on. However, with the short comings of the screen, it is aggravating to use all the features.
