The Dead Zone - The Complete First Season (DVD, 2003, 4-Disc Set)

One of the best shows to air on television in a long time, The Dead Zone is a refreshing retelling of Stephen King's book of the same title and follows the adventures of a school teacher, Johnny Smith, who's life changed forever when a car accident left him in a coma for six years. When he awoke, he comes to realize he has a new gift, a psychic gift, that manifests when he touches something with a story to tell. The storylines are intense, the characters are well-written and beautifully acted, this is definitely one Series to add to anyone's list!

Taking it's track more from the book than the Chris Walken movie, the TV series Dead Zone is enjoyable entertainment. It's now going into its final season but the first season is worth a rewatch if you haven't seen it for a while, or worth a look if you haven't seen any of the show. Anthony Michael Hall finally shakes off his kid-actor past and turns in steady leading performances throughout (with only minor annoyances: the cane his character carries doesn't seem to be as necessary as it is decorative). The filming is engaging and fun, using decent CGI bullet-time effects to show the visions of the future; the plots are fairly uniform with well-written and interesting ideas that weave Johnny Smith's visions into reality and work the grey areas between. Some serious issues are introduced at times and dealt with fairly, and at other times the sense of absurd and humor comes through--one never detracts from the other.
High-grade TV. Worth the time.

I had seen a couple of episodes of The Dead Zone on TV which I liked and when I saw the reasonable price on half.com, I ordered seasons 1-4. So far, I have viewed all of season 1 much to my enjoyment. Stories about seeing the future or past are entertaining. Michael Anthony Hall is eye candy, and his acting is pretty good.

I like the original movie. I decided to watch the pilot on dvd. I was totaled inthralled. I decided to go buy the first season instead of slowly renting the dvds. The pilot is similar to the first movie but makes a few different choices. He has a group of friends that help him. Also the series illustrates that many of his choices in changing the future are not just black and white. He can't save everyone and sometimes he makes trades. We are slowly shown that Johny was given this power for a reason. The episode with the airplane rivating. I have ended up buying other season of the show. I enoy re-watching them.

Excellent series! I got this for my husband and he loves it. It has sci-fi, romance, suspense all rolled into one!

Watch out because it is addicting and you will need to grab the second season before you finish the first.
