Cowboys & Aliens (DVD, 2011)

Yes, I would recommend this product to a friend.
Review For: Cowboys & Aliens (DVD, 2011)

This movie is A M A Z I N G ! If you are bored with the same old genre, then this movie is for you. A great mix of old west meets alien invasion. This is no ET. Think Western meets Predator. Great action, special effects and overall concept. When the towns people of the old west have their loved ones taken by aliens, they look to one man to help them get them back. An otherworldly weapon is used to fight fire with fire after he escapes abduction with more than he came with. Honest towns folk, Outlaws and even the Native indians come together with a common goal to save the Earth. Lots of violence and plenty of gross out scenes but it is all worth it. Small ones may be a little unsettled but depending on their maturity, this movie is great for just about anyone of any age and even stars the boy from Last Airbender.

Intertesting blend of Western & sci-fi genres

Yes, I would recommend this product to a friend.
Review For: Cowboys & Aliens (DVD, 2011)

When the planet is threatened by an alien invasion, humans set aside their differences and unite in fighting a common enemy. Since this is the Old West, it is probably not realistic that a sadistic cattle baron would cooperate with the poor townspeople he enthralls --- not to mention the local natives, a wanted criminal, and a woman --- but wouldn't it be nice if they DID all get along and find lasting comeraderie and redemption? For the sake of the movie, this is necessary; it is, after all, an action-adventure film, not a depressing story of humans squabbling among themselves. As in the Westerns of old, you want to root for the good guys and cheer when they vanquish the bad guys; not surprisingly, once the humans put aside their differences and team up, the audience gets what it wants. The film uniquely combines the Western and sci-fi genres. My only reason for deducting a point was that many of the scenes are shot in near-total darkness, making it hard to see the aliens and tell exactly what is happening. But over all, an exciting feel-good movie, worth a look.

Good movie BUT some things we’ve seen before & TOO MUCH CRAIG

Yes, I would recommend this product to a friend.
Review For: Cowboys & Aliens (DVD, 2011)

I have been a fan & collector of Harrison's for over 30 years.
I USED to be first in the door opening day for his films. I did want to be there for this one but could not make it.

Now, we see latest Bond Craig throughout this movie & he got top billing. Why, the current in the long list of this character. No other hit movies. Now, Harrison. Let's see. Oscar nominated for Witness. Played two famous movie characters Han Solo & Indiana Jones. Long time biggest movie money maker.

The film is good. You have seen the ending a million times. The Wilde character, I won’t do spoilers here, you could guess.

Could hardly see a lot of the night action. Took forever to see the aliens. Stole part of that idea from "Alien".

Normal special effects.

One of the talk shows Harrison appeared on to promote the film mention how 3 films in a row he played a grouchy guy.

Too many shots of Craig making that touch guy face.

A few extras on the DVD-nothing special. No chapter search list. AND, COMCAST COME ON. We now get Comcast advertisements with DVD's. TACKY!!

So, a good movie. Pick out the seen before parts from other movies.

"Pretty Good!"

Review For: Cowboys & Aliens (DVD, 2011)

Daniel Craig, Harrison Ford and Olivia Wilde star
in Jon Favreau's 2011 sci-fi western. A stranger
seeks help from a woman and a colonel to fight
aliens taking over the west. This is pretty good
and Daniel and Harrison are great together.
This dvd has nice picture and sound, but only
commentary and featurettes. I recommend
this.

Great Blu Ray Presentation of a Western-with-a-twist.

Yes, I would recommend this product to a friend.

I enjoyed Cowboys and Aliens when I saw it in the theater and knew I wanted the Blu Ray when it was released. The Blu Ray doesn't disappoint. It has great picture quality, excellent sound and a great selection of features including both the theatrical edition of the film, an extended edition of the film, commentaries and featurettes. The movie itself is a pretty simple western plot with aliens serving as the bad guys. The real joy is in watching the interaction between Harrison Ford and Daniel Craig playing characters not unlike Clint Eastwood and Lee Van Cleef in the Man With No Name movies. Craig and Ford are supported by a strong cast of supporting actors making for an enjoyable Western-With-a-Twist. My only real dislike of the Blu Ray is that there are several reminders to connect to the internet for extra content. Great that there's extra content on the internet, but I wonder how long that content will remain available. Will the blu ray be outdated in a year or two when you can't access some features?
