Movie synopsis
Beautiful music and striking dance performances are the highlight of Francis Ford Coppola's musical/mobster flick centered around the legendary Harlem nightclub. The club's black dancers and musicians entertain the exclusively white audience made up of gangsters and Hollywood stars. Local boy Dixie Dwyer (Richard Gere) saves the life of crime boss Dutch Schultz (James Remar) and reluctantly enters the world of racketeering. Talented tap dancer Sandman Williams (Gregory Hines) struggles to get ahead in the segregated world of 1920s nightlife. Authentic costuming and sets help make THE COTTON CLUB a stylistic homage to the Jazz Age and gangster films of old.

A movie that looks & sounds fresh today as it did 25 years ago.
The Best Musical Set In America's Best Musical Time! The Roaring 20's!
A musical with as much drama, excitment, murder, & mayham as you can handle in 2 hours. Richard Gere Plays a pretty mean horn in it as well!(Possibly his best role ever...) Gregorg Hines one tap routine will knok your socks off! Bob Hoskins MOB boss role was uncartoon like!

Review For: The Cotton Club (DVD, 2009)

I wanted a DVD copy as my VHS was getting old.
It is a great movie, with costumes, fab music and wonderful
dance numbers. If you like musical drama, The Cotton Club is a good choice.

The Cotton Club

Review For: The Cotton Club (DVD, 2009)

Great movie! I am in my last semester of college and I am taking Mus 347 - History of Jazz. This was a great look into the time and at one of NYC's best know Jazz Clubs in the early days of Jazz and how it was ran by the gangsters of the day. This is the club that gave Duke Ellington a stage to show his greatness. Acting is great and as a period piece the costumes, language and feel are spot on!
