This is one of the best concerts I have ever seen/listened to! I rented the DVD from Netflix and played it constantly for 4 days - so now when I listen to the CD I can picture all the participants and their instruments! I thought I was getting the DVD when I ordered, but my mistake. So now I will have to find the DVD and use the CD in my auto! Every musician that plays George's tunes is a perfect match in my opinion. Disappointed that the songs with Sam Brown & Jools Holland were not on this set. I was not familiar with Sam Brown or Jools Holland (so I ordered other CD's featuring just them) I have received Jools "Swing" album and does it ever make me want to dance. Looking forward to receiving Sam Brown's as "she" totally rocks on this Harrison tribute with "Horse to the Water" (need to get the DVD to view/hear this one and you don't want to miss it! If you can sit through this tune, better check your pulse, you might want to call the morgue!) Loved Joe Brown & Jeff Lynne & of course, Tom Petty & the Heartbreakers! The last few songs are a jam session as all the musicans are playing along (3 sets of drums, lost track ot the guitarists!etc. the percussionist (Ray Cooper) is a show all by himself! The closing song (Joe Brown singing "I'll see you in my dreams" will linger with you for days (maybe longer)! This is shortened version of the actual Concert, will have to check my list of songs they played to see what other are left off, but if you enjoy being moved both physically & spiritually - order the CD or better yet the DVD!
Great, Great CD. How can you go wrong with a band made up of Eric Clapton, Jeff Lynne, Ringo Starr, Paul McCartney, Tom Petty and the Heartbreakers, Billy Preston and another dozen talented musicians and singers who wanted to pay tribute to their friend, George Harrison. If you only hear one song from this compilation it has to be Whaa Whaa. It will give you goose bumps.
THE CONCERT FOR GEORGE (GEORGE HARRISON)
The concert was a touching tribute for a musician who has touched just about everybody's life. If you had ears and a radio, CD player, record player, cassette deck, etc, then you heard this guy either alone or with the Beatles. He was the quiet one who let his musical talent and abilty speak for him.
This is the concert DVD showing the many fellow musicians, family, and friends who felt it important to play his music in his honor...and honor him they did. It is a beautiful and heartfelt tribute...it should be seen and owned by anyone who cares about great music.
blues u can use
This is a great CD version of the even greater DVD of the benefit concert George Harrison's friends put on at Royal Albert Hall, one year after his death,
There are 2 discs: One of Ravi Shankar's performance; the other contains George's creations performed by his buds.
One negative: a handful of George's songs found on the DVD are missing from this CD. Bummer.
Great sound for a live performance.
Bought this for my wife who is a George Harrison fan, she likes it a lot. I've heard it in the car and it sounds good but you can tell it's a live recording not as crisp and clear as a studio album and some of the tracks are Indian music we are not interested in. Overall I would say a good purchase for a George Harrison fan not as much for the casual listener.
