This movie, although older than all 4 of my kids, will always be a great! Coming to America shows how Eddie Murphy and his side kick Arsenio Hall go to America to sow Eddie's royal oats & to find an American bride. They set out for Queens, NY and the story unfolds. Eddie Murphy ends up not marrying the bride that was picked for him but the one that he found in Queens
I have seen this movie literally, over 100 times and I still cannot get enough. I almost know the entire movie by hard. Eddy Murphy is a young Prince from a Country in Africa called Zemunda.
At the age of 21, his father must choose a wife from Zemunda for the young Prince. He does not want this. He chooses to go to America to find his beautiful bride.
He has two choices. The decided on the choice of QUEENS, New York.
ALL OUT FUNNY.............Please buy this movie.......you will not regret it.
I always have liked Eddie Murphy movies and this was one that I didn't have in my collection. I liked the part where he gave the money to Ralph Bellamy and Don Ameche as a play back to Trading Places.
James Earl Jones is also another of my favorite actors.
This is a really funny movie about a young African Prince from a mythical African country. His father has selected his bride for him, but he doesn't want to marry yet. Instead, he wants to visit America and "sew his wild oats". His Father the King, James Earl Jones, agrees and sends him and his lifelong personal servant and friend Arsenio Hall to where else - Queens, N.Y.! Desperately wanting to live just like everybody else, they take a ratty, roach infested, slum apartment. The plan is for the Prince, Eddy Murphy, if anybody was to find out, to pretend he was the servant, and Hall was the prince. Going to work in a fried chicken restaurant, Murphy falls in love with the owner's daughter. The owner does everything he can to discourage this because he wants her to marry money. After many funny turns, mostly due to language or customs differences, they begin to assimilate into Anerican life. One day Murphy's parents come to America, and along with their servants and bodyguards. When they try to find the Prince, they eventually make it over to the chicken place and the owner's home. They are staying at the Waldorf Astoria Hotel and are totally against any relationship between their son and a common girl. Her father is crazy when he finds out that Murphy is a Prince, and their money has his picture on it! All goes nuts for a while until Murphy's mother steps in and they wind up together.
This is a must-see, must-own movie. The choreography and costumes are excellent and unique! James Earl Jones, Arsenio Hall and Eddie Murphy give great performances. The plot is real and fantasy at the same time and it is simply one of the best movies ever! If you are a DVD collector like me, this movie definetly has to be in your collection.
