When shopping for an under-counter kitchen TV/DVD combo, I was surprised that no "large" companies had anything to fill the need. I guess Sony (and others) expect you to buy a mountable LCD, and tie it in to your fancy entertainment system, but since that wasn't an option - this was the best alternative.
For the price, and compared to other models, the rating "good" really doesn't do this justice. The tv is sharp and bright (when viewed from just the right angle), the audio is not as bad as people in other reviews suggested, and mounting wasn't difficult. This was also the only model I found with AV inputs...which seems weird, as models from other manufacturers had out to TV (duh, the television is build in). Digital tuner works great, but invest the money in a good antenna unless you live right in the center of a major metropolitan area.
Television angle is limited - so if you're standing at the stove, and someone is sitting at the kitchen table, you're both not going to be watching.
Provided screws are too short for mounting, and the threads in the unit are METRIC. It was a challenge finding the right screws, but after two frustrating trips to [orange chain hardware store] install was easy and uneventful.
Audio is OK. It's fine for watching broadcast TV, but pretty bad for music. The simplest thing in the world would be for manufacturers to circumvent all the audio complaints by adding a headphone jack. Hook up a decent set of computer speakers and you're in business. Sadly, no one thought of that.
All in all though, very happy with it.
I bought this because I wanted a tv in the kitchen, but didn't want to give up counter space. It meets my needs. I like that it is a tv, dvd player and radio all in one and that the screen folds up and turns. I don't like that it is a little complicated to use (have to use the instruction manual). My biggest complaint is that there is a significant difference in the volume between settings two and three. Three is so loud that the speakers rumble and sound a little static-y during commercials. Overall, it was a good purchase.
THIS UNIT REPLACED A UNIT WITH NO TV!
THIS UNIT WAS EASY TO INSTALL WITH TEMPLATE,HAS GREAT FM SENSITIVITY WITH OUTDOOR ANTENNA,LCD PICTURE WAS GREAT,DTV AND DVD SHOWED WELL ON THE ANGLE AND ROTATE ADJUSTABLE LCD SCREEN.INSTRUCTIONS TO PROGRAM AND ADJUST UNIT IS CLEAR.
THE LOWS FOR THIS UNIT ARE ,THE UNIT DISPLAYS A "------" WHEN POWERED DOWN,THE REMOTE BUTTONS ARE VERY SMALL AND HARD TO SEE,ALTHOUGH IT CAME WITH BATTERIES,THE MOUNTING SCREWS ARE A LITTLE SHORT,THOUGHT THEY WORKED IN MY CASE,THE SOUND QUALITY IS TINNY BUT LOUD,THE DVD AND CD ARE HARD TO REMOVE FROM THE TRAY BECAUSE THERE IS NO SIDE SLOTS.UNIT WAS INSTALLED USING A DRILL,AND PHILIPS SCREWDRIVER.RUNNING THE ANTENNA WIRES TO THE UNIT TOOK THE MOST TIME.TOTAL INSTALLATION TIME APPROX 2 HOURS
