I have a large RV, and needed a device that would "call out" the directions as it guided me. In a car, one can easily glance at a screen, but in a 35 foot rig, with the windshield about 4 feet away, one has to pay close attention to the road. So, a large screen with colorful maps, and a voice prompt was what I wanted in a NAV device. This unit far exceeded my expectations. I absolutely love this thing. It is really simple to operate and user friendly. The screen prompts are huge. Additionally, it has points of interest that include fuel stops, RV parks and RV repair service locations. Something I had no idea existed in a NAV device. It is easy to install on a windshied, and I take it back and forth from RV to car. I can't compare it to other units as this is the only one I have owned, but the price was excellent, and the features were more than I anticipated. I can't imagine buying one without the voice prompts, because one would have to watch the screen continually - not good. This unit also is Bluetooth ready, and it took me minutes to connect my cheap little Nokia cell phone to it to make and recieve hand-free calls right from the screen. Also, when you find a point of interest, you can simply call the business right from the screen. This is an ultra convenient and simple to use device, and I really do love it.
Have owned Cobra products before, including the NAV ONE 4500 with excellent results, but the 5000 was misrepresented by the seller as having traffic alerts as well as being up to date with mapping programs. This is true, but at a cost of $159.00 for the antenna and service, only available from Cobra. Upon contacting Cobra, customer service was non existent, AND I was told I would also have to update the maps (for an additional $159.00 [what's up with the $159.00 hangup??], also not included in the original purchase). I did get a good buy on the unit itself, but after adding all the additional costs, price exceeded most GPS units just for the updates alone. And, the updates will have to be renewed annually for an ongoing expense. Totally misrepresenting the original product. As I told Cobra, looks like Garmin just got a new customer...
I purchased the Cobra NAV ONE 5000 Car GPS Receiver a few weeks ago. I like that it has a 5" screen it has alot of features, It is a little heavy for the window mount, but works great on the dash. It was new, still sealed in the box, and I purchased it for a discount over the stores asking price.
Only one thing to say.
GREAT GPS Unit.
I'm traveling tech, I use the NAV One all day long, everyday. It puts Tom Tom to shame!
It's a shame Cobra has quit makeing them.
I am glad to have found the Cobra Navigation system at a great price. The service that you provided in mailing the equipment was as promised. The device operates nicely and has everything as expected. The Cobra Navigation System is the king of them all.
