Well, I've had the Cobalt for about three weeks now & for the most part satisfied with its performance.
The price is excellent for this size tablet. It is an asain made unit which pretty much eliminates any type of tech support.
I ran the battery down one day and recharged the unit. It remained stuck on the "dead battery" screen.
I msgd cobalt through ebay & told them of the problem.
They sent back a link to a foreign website that my pc would not even display. So theres pretty much no tech support for these units.
I finally figured out how to do a "hard" reset and now everything works fine. The android 4.0 os is very good and the screen works flawlessly.
Good luck on trying to find any accesories for this unit. I found a universal leather case for it as well as a universal
screen protector to help protect the unit.
One surprise is that it will do Flash. I played one of my online "flash" based games and it performed ok. The screen flashed a
bit because of the cpu load on the small processor, but overall it was manageable.
The mini-HDMI output works very well and i have viewed my movies in 1080p on my big screen (big plus).
As far as the 10" display, i rate it as a 5 out of 10. It is nowhere near a retina display
& the sharpness is simply not there, but It's hard to expect a whole lot considering the price I paid.
The old saying "You Get What You Pay For" certainly applies here.
SUMMARY.........
FOr the price, it is a very good unit. I purchased this to play movies on my big screen. For this task, the unit works very well.
as far as performance, the small 1.0Ghz. cpu as well as low-end quality display leave something to be desired.
The Android OS 4.0 is nice as well.
My personal rating would have to be 6 out of 10 stars. If, (like me) you use it as a media player, it is perfect.
i bought this tablet for my wife but was looking for something within my budget. of course the very low price of $150 really caught my eye but it had to meet some requirements also. Number one, it had to have the latest version of the andrion operating software which is 4.0. It also needed to have an expandable memery slot and had to have wifi. Most of all i wanted a capacitive screen, which it does. After meeting all of my needs, i buy it and try it out. not knowing anything about the brand i was unsure how it would perform. right out of the box i was impressed with the size, weight and overall feel of the tablet. i have a samsung android phone and it seems like a much larger version of that. the instructions and set up were very clear and easy to do. the pages and screens flow smoothly when i tap the screen or slide my finger over the screen. goes on the internet with wifi easily and was a breeze to set up. i have had this tablet for a couple months and have not found anything i do not like about it. so far, i am very happy with my purchase. i have never owned a tablet but have used some at the retails stores and this one seems to be able to do anything that any of the other more expensive tablets can do. i will be buying 3 more of these for my kids for christmas.
For $150, this tablet beats both the Kindle Fire and Nook Color. With this tablet, I can read both epub and mobi files with no problems. Downloading other apps (via its built-in wifi) enables me to read MS Office and PDF documents. The 10.1" capacitive multi-touch display makes for a better reading experience compared to the Kindle/Nook small 7" display. It can display in portrait or landscape mode and can do so automatically with its 4- directions gravity sensor.
Also, I'm able to watch movies, display photos, play games, video chat, check emails, etc., etc. I bought a combination keyboard/stand case to make it easier to deal with text oriented tasks and to protect the screen when not in use - makes it sort of a reasonably priced ($165) Android netbook.
The battery life is good enough for me to watch two Netflix movies without recharging in between.
If this tablet were launched by a major brand at the price of $150 that I got it for, it would have probably killed the Kindle Fire and Nook Color.
Considering the alternatives in the same price range this tablet is almost perfect. It uses an ARMv7 compatible Sun4i (Aka Allwinner A13) System On a Chip (SoC) complete with Mali-400mp GPU. Using this for web surfing has been a dream. (Larger flash games rarely load completely on any tablet.) I did test games on this device and found that using Chainfire 3D resolved compatibility issues. Just make sure to get the plug-ins for that app from XDA. Movies work great, music plays back wonderfully. Includes real Google Play store. Runs Android 4 (Ice Cream Sandwich) giving greater control over many aspects of the device.
My single gripe is that the components are so tightly packed into the case that uneven weight will push them into the back of the screen. This causes temporary distortions.
This tablet is so slow. If I would have known the touch screen was so slow I wouldn't have bought it. If your on ebay it takes forever for you to get to the botton of the page.
You wait for everything. Its not good for the internet.
