Chrono Trigger 'A Game to be Remembered' Quick Review

When Nintendo Power released screen shots of what was to be known as Chrono Trigger, I went nuts. I knew that a game with similar graphics to Secret Of Mana was going to be something promising, something out of this world, and was it ever. As soon as I put my Chrono Trigger cart into my SNES I felt the magic right away(boy did Squaresoft know how to make games back then).

This game has it all for an RPG. The graphics are superior, the music by Yasunori Mitsuda was the kind of music that gelled with this game, I can safely say that Yasunori was the right man for the job. If anything the soundtrack can be listened to for hours at a time.

Now like every other great RPG this had the map feature, smooth graphics and awesome game play. The fighting sequence was a little different to that of the early Final Fantasy games but different if a good way and it's always hard to compete against Final Fantasy, it's actually really comparable to the style of Secret of Mana. The story line was so magical, each character with a unique personality. As soon as you start the game the adventure begins from the get go. Now what makes this game truly unique is the fact you can 'time travel' to figure out clues and unlock certain stories. You also have the ability to use Techs which are character attack moves. Depending on who's in your party you can learn Techs that involve all 3 characters, very cool.

This game truly deserves a 10/10 for it's uniqueness and overall game play. This is the total package when it comes to RPGs and I don't want to say anything more to give away the game. So if you haven't tried it don't waste anymore time and pick up a copy.

The Best of SNES now better and in your pocket!

Please take your time, read and vote if possible.
For those who know Chrono from SNES and the remake for PS1, this is a must have. Chrono Trigger DS has all the snes features and ps1 CG scenes plus new dungeons (at least 5), new bosses, and new items.
There's also a new(and better) translation made to fit the real script of the game.

Now for those who don't know Chrono Trigger:
It's free movement, that means you can move freely on the dungeom maps, in all eight directions, also the battles don't have square movements either.
This is a turn based RPG, you can choose wait/active turns. 'Wait' let you imput your commands(attacks, itens, spells) and you won't be attacked, while in 'active' monsters will attack you while you are choosing what to do
In the dungeons there's not really random battles, once you can see where the enemies are, and may choose to battle them or not. They will always be at the same spot.
To enter a battle you just need to touch the enemy or reach a pre-determined space, also the scenario don't change when you enter a battle, you fight in the exact place you are.
The way the enemies are arranged will change the effect of your techs(skills).
There are several tech, normal, magical, double and triple tech(as the name says it includes two or three of your chars).
It has nice visual effects, and a great soundtrack, also the plot and the background of each character is really well made.
Also the character art was made by Akira Toriyama, same as in dragon quest and the dragon ball series.

In Chrono Trigger you are Crono, living near Leene Square at year 1000AD.
After metting Marle a misterious wandering girl, and Lucca your old friend you kind of go through some troubles and find yourself near... uh... Leene square...uh... at 600AD!
Well this is just the beggining of your timetraveling/people finding adventures.
Have Fun.

Past, Present or Future, this game will forever live on

14 years ago, a child had never played an RPG, had heard of others who had played such games. The Mana series, the FF series..The child could not play these gems because the child's family could not afford such, but had longed for the day. After waiting, the child heard of a game called "Chrono Trigger" made by the notorious Squaresoft. At that point, the child asked his parents for the title for christmas, to which the parents agreed. Yay! Now all he had to do was wait to finally play a such RPG that others had played, HOWEVER little did he know what was in store to come!

On the first December after this RPG's release, the child's anxiety level would increase ever so slightly with each passing moment. However, the fates did not show favor to the child, as on the very day that the child was to receive the game, the child fell ill..with a mildly hot fever. HOWEVER!

Though the child was ill, when he finally awoke that afternoon, he was bedazzled to find the game sitting atop his sheets, all the while the child feeling completely unworthy of it's pwnership.

And that was what began a 3 year long obsession I had with this game. Many things, if not all things, have already been said over the past 14 years. Now, this game bears it's third american format, thus now a beautifully portable format at that. However, I do not like redundant comments that are more generic than most of todays games. This game is a legend. I do not care what's been added, taken away, changed, spiced up, or any other way to specify change.

Many games have history in this world. This was a game that not only made history, but continues to changes its own future as well as those who are blessed with playing this Role-Playing Giant.

Love the DS version, or hate it, I don't care, but this game will never die.

Chrono Trigger

When a newly developed teleportation device malfunctions at the Millennial Fair, young Crono must travel through time to rescue his unfortunate companion from an intricate web of past and present perils. The swashbuckling adventure that ensues soon unveils an evil force set to destroy the world, triggering Crono's race against time to change the course of history and bring about a brighter future. Features an engaging and unparalleled storyline, leading to the discovery of multiple epic conclusions to a journey that transcends time. An inspiring musical score created by Yasunori Mitsuda. Intriguing battle system made possible by the unique combination of the Active Time Battle system and Tech skills. Famed character designer Akira Toriyama lends his signature art style to create the vibrant world that has captivated gamers around the world. Taking advantage of the Nintendo DS hardware, CHRONO TRIGGER makes its way onto the portable platform with all-new dual screen presentation and Touch-Screen functionality. A brand new dungeon and a Wireless Play mode adds exciting new dimensions to this timeless classic.
This game is one of the most highly praised and lauded role playing games from the Super Nintendo era and of all time. It is constantly among many top ten lists and yet it has never quite reached mainstream levels that "Final Fantasy" or "Kingdom Hearts" have reached. This could be due to the fact that only two games exist in the franchise and this is the second remake of the first. Somehow, "Chrono Trigger" has eluded even me for all these years but now is the perfect time to actually sit down and experience this one of a kind RPG for the first time.

An Ode to Time Travel

There are few things in the world that truly satisfy. Sure, they may taste good or provide some entertainment but they lack an ingredient. An aura. Chrono Trigger is such an item that possesses this aura for myself, and from what I've gathered, many others as well. It has a simple enough plot: Boy wants to do great things, meets a girl, embarks on adventure. Simple. Chrono Trigger is far from simple, however.

The game itself is an adventure. It could be best categorized as an RPG. The graphics are average for their time, but the journey one embarks on is far from average. Time travel. Medieval times. Knights. Magic. Revenge. Death of loved ones. The importance of conservation. Always being mindful of where you came from. How our ancestors shape who we are and the environment we know and love. Simple ideas that all come together and create a magical world. As a kid of perhaps 10, I loved this game. I loved the characters and the simple dialogue. I loved the epic music and it created a mood for the environs. I loved the interesting characters that came from all walks of life. I loved every bit of it.

I opened the game today, having not played the original SNES cartridge since I had sold it to Funcoland to finance an N64. This was at the hayday of Goldeneye and I had to be part of the excitement. I regret that day because Chrono Trigger is a one in lifetime find. It's perfect in every way. I popped the game in and all the great memories came rushing back. Being a kid, recess, drawing pictures, pretending characters were my crush, imagining myself as a wizard, of sorts. All the great things are still there.

Chrono Trigger is elegant in every way. This game is not cheap, but great things seldom come free. If you own an SNES, buy this game. It's a treasure and a steal at any price. If I were to estimate the amount of fun I have had because of this game it would surely top 200 or 300 hours. A typical movie last about 1.5 hours and costs you about 10 dollars admission. 1.5/10 = .15 hours of entertainment per dollar. Let's look at Chrono Trigger. 50 bucks on average, but around 250 hours of entertainment. 250/50 = 5 hours of entertainment per dollar spent. This doesn't even take into account a movie which provides poor entertainment. I'm telling you this game is classic.
