Movie synopsis
An untrusting wife attempts to prove that her husband is cheating by hiring an escort to seduce him, inadvertently endangering her entire family in the process. Catherine (Julianne Moore) is a respected doctor, and her husband, David (Liam Neeson), is a dedicated music professor. They've been married for years and have a teenage son together, but lately the passion has faded from their romance. The morning after David misses his flight home -- and the elaborate surprise birthday party Catherine had planned to celebrate his return -- Catherine finds a text message on his phone that leads her to believe her husband is sleeping with a female student. Her suspicions grow over the following weeks, and when Catherine has a run-in with an escort named Chloe (Amanda Seyfried), she hires the ravishing blonde to test her husband's fidelity. After each encounter with David, Chloe reports back to Catherine with all the sordid details. But the further the experiment goes, the less clear Chloe's motivations for taking part in it become, and the more the untrusting wife begins to fear that the situation has spiraled out of control. Directed by Atom Egoyan (THE SWEET HEREAFTER, ARARAT), this erotic thriller is a remake of Anne Fontaine's French film NATHALIE..., and was adapted by Erin Cressida Wilson.

Chloe

Review For: Chloe (DVD, 2010)

This is a story about a young girl name Chloe, Played by Amanda Seyfried, who ends up in the middle of a strained marriage between Catherine, a doctor played by Julianne Moore and David, a college professor played by Liam Neeson.

Synopsis:

At first the couple seem to be living the perfect life but things get more dysfunctional as the things unfold. The story starts out with Catherine being suspicious of David after he misses a flight home after a lecture. She had planned a surprise birthday party for him and when doesn't arrive when he was supposed to, she begins to think that he had purposely not come home possibly because he might be having an affair with some young coed. After confronting him, she decided to hire Chloe, an escort, to see if David can be seduced and confirm her suspicions and test his fidelity to her. Later, Chloe tells Catherine that she has indeed seduced David. Catherine decides to pursue this matter further and continues to pay Chloe to see David and report back. Each time the two women meet, the descriptions becoming increasingly graphic. As this is happening, Catherine tries to control Chloe more and more and eventually has a sexual experience with Chloe herself. Chloe becomes infatuated with Catherine and starts trying to see her as a lover and perhaps as a maternal substitute as well. Catherine doesn't really want this and eventually spurns her. Chloe then seduces David and Catherine's son, Max, who has issues of his own. When Catherine catches them together in her home things really start to get out of hand....

I don't want to give everything away. But I will say that things are not always what they appear to be. Part of enjoying this film is not knowing everything before you watch it.

My review:

I enjoyed this movie very much. It has a great cast. This is a very well scripted and shot film. The story has some interesting twists in the plot and and the acting is very good (convincing). Since there is some graphic nudity and several scenes of sex, I wouldn't recommend for young audiences (particularly those younger than 17 years of age). Also, if you you are offended by such things, regardless of your age, then this probably isn't your type of movie either. On the other hand, the story is very compelling and ultimately is a tragedy for the title character. I would highly recommend this movie with only the reservations being with regard to age and or personal appropriateness.

An unusual and fascinating movie that's worth seeing

Review For: Chloe (DVD, 2010)

This is an intense and engrossing movie, and it's regrettable that more people didn't experience it. It was only in limited release, vanished from theaters after about a week, and only took in a measly $3 million, about one-fifth of what it cost to make. Admittedly, it's not for everyone. The eroticism and psychological twists might not appeal to viewers looking for lightweight entertainment. Remember "Eyes Wide Shut", with Tom Cruise and Nicole Kidman? If you enjoyed that film, you'll probably like this one as well. I found it fascinating, and consider it the kind of movie that gets better with repeat viewings, which is why I bought the DVD.
The basic premise is pretty simple. Julianne Moore plays a doctor who suspects that her husband, Liam Neeson, may be cheating on her. To test her theory, she hires a high-class "escort" to come on to him and report back to her whether the husband responded to temptation. It's a new type of role for the super-gorgeous Amanda Seyfried, who plays a prostitute rather than the wholesome, family-friendly characters we saw in "Mamma Mia", "Dear John" and "Letters to Juliet". She's great in the part; classy, sexy and sensitive, but with some psychological issues for sure. I won't give away too much, but relationships start to get complicated. It can't be a coincidence that that Julianne Moore is a gynecologist, presumably with a good understanding of human sexuality. Yet she can't seem to handle her teenage son's "sleepovers" with his girlfriend, and she herself gets, shall we say, a little too involved with Seyfried in what was originally intended as strictly a business proposition.
This is the kind of movie you'll probably talk about at length after you see it
and, of course, everyone will disagree on what it all means. That's part of the fun, right? I did find the ending a disappointment, however, which is why I rate it 4 stars ("good") instead of five ("excellent"). Well, maybe four-and-a-half. I thought the ending was kind of a cop-out, as if someone were looking to provide fast and easy "closure" rather than a well-developed resolution.
This criticism aside, however, I would highly recommend the movie for viewers who enjoy a thought-provoking and sensual story, perfectly cast.

Good Suspense Movie

Catherine (Julianne Moore) suspects that her husband David (Liam Neeson) is cheating on her. To find out she hires an escort named Chloe (Amanda Seyfried) to talk him into having sex. This will prove to Catherine if David is cheating or not. Only problem is that everything that Chloe reported back to her may not be true. So Catherine decides to get to the bottom of this and find out what exactly is going on.

This is a good suspense movie and Neeson, Moore and Seyfried give very good performances. The story is gripping and keeps you entertained for the entire length of the movie.

The movie also stars: Max Thieriot, and R.H. Thomson

Get this movie is love a good story.
