Review For: Chappelle's Show - Season 1 Uncensored (DVD, 2004, 2-Disc Set)
This is the man and the show that started it all. The Chappelle Show Season 1 took America by storm - partly because no expected the edginess, partly because it came out of nowhere, and mostly because Dave Chappelle is simply hilarious. No topic is untouchable. No celebrity is off-limits. No racial or cultural taboo cant be made fun of.
Season 1 introduced the world to these great skits:
* Great Moments in Hookup History
* The Real Real World
* Paul Mooney's Ask a Black Dude
* the Playa Hater Ball
* Wu-Tang Financials
* Redman Potty Fresh
* And 1 Mixtapes
* Trading Spouses - my personal favorite
The DVD comes stacked with bloopers, uncensored moments, and deleted scenes. This DVD can be watched time and time again - its that funny.
Guest appearances and segments with famous and not-so-famous celebrities include: Dave Chappelle, William Bogert, Shawn Thomas, Erin Stutland, Guillerno Diaz, Michael Rapaport, Dominiue Whitten, Josh Perilo, Talib Kweli, Redman, Paul Mooney, Fat Joe, Dee Snider, David Broom, Mario Cantone, Stephen King, Paul Mooney, Killer Mike, Amanda Naughton, Jim Breuer, Guillerno Diaz, The Roots, Ice-T, Cindy Katz, Charlie Murphy, Patrice O'Neal, Rich Vos, Yoshio Mita, Randy Pearlstein, Donyale Mcrae, Mikyuko Mariyama, Gza, Bob Wiltfong, Carolyn Ditmars, Cynthia Ditmars, Christine Ditmars, Carson Daily, De La Soul.

Chappelle's Show...today's Richard Pryor.

Review For: Chappelle's Show - Season 1 Uncensored (DVD, 2004, 2-Disc Set)
For those of you old enough you can remember the attempt NBC made in the late 70's to coin in on Richard Pryor's success by giving him his own weekly television show. It only lasted a few episodes, and such greats on the cast were Pryor, Robin Williams and Paul Mooney. The comedy was a little too edgy...but it seems that Dave Chappelle picked up right where he left off - and today's society seems to be ready to listen.
Chappelle has one of the most original comedic minds of today. Touching on sexuality, racism and socioeconomic ideas, Chappelle gives a fascinating view on life that is sure to make you chuckle. Paul Mooney, noted earlier, plays in a skit called "Ask a Black Guy", in which anyone can ask a black person questions they have have felt uncomfortable about...truly hilarious.
It seems that Chappelle's quick rise to the top has had an effect on him. His third season was well publicized in 2005 and then abruptly cancelled. It is set to show in 2006 - but we will see.
Most Chappelle fans already own this. If you are just discovering him, pick up this and also the movie "Half Baked".
Warning - if you are sensitive to the use of the "n word", this may not be for you. However, if you are openminded to the racial tensions in the world, you'll get a kick out of this.

Review For: Chappelle's Show - Season 1 Uncensored (DVD, 2004, 2-Disc Set)
Dave Chappelle is an amazing comedian and the uncut unedited dvd of season one is hilarious. The dvd also features extra audio of Dave and Neal Brennan the co-creator talking about certain episodes. It also has an expanded "Ask a Black Man w/ Paul Mooney" sketch.

Dave Chappelle: Absolute Comedy Legend

Review For: Chappelle's Show - Season 1 Uncensored (DVD, 2004, 2-Disc Set)
Dave Chappelle is a rare thing in the world of comedy. He dives right into the touchy topics of race, religion, politics, and racism, all while remaining balanced and poking innocent fun without offending anyone who can think critically. The first season was groundbreaking and seemed untoppable- then he came into the second season strong and blew his first season out of the water. In fact, the first disc of season 2 alone is comedy gold almost anyone can appreciate.
If you are ultra conservative and think cursing or irreverence are inherently evil, then this is not for you- but if you can embrace the differences of others and satire amuses you, then it gets no better than Chapelle's Show. I think he makes some strong social statements that call the educated mind to reconsider preconceived notions about others and themselves.
He also takes stabs at his comrades in Hollywood- you can tell Dave puts a lot of time and effort into making the sketches top notch and creating broad appeal. He gained the respect of the comedy world, the entertainment world, and the common man all at once.
In short, this is a must have for anyone who loves to laugh. The quality of his work is simply the best there is. The ripple he created in society will carry on for generations.

Used DVD - Season One of Chappelle's Show

Review For: Chappelle's Show - Season 1 Uncensored (DVD, 2004, 2-Disc Set)
This is the DVD set encompassing all of the episodes from the First season of Comedy Central's hit TV show, featuring comedian Dave Chappelle. I enjoyed the show, and watched it every week when it was on the air. This DVD set shows the episodes without the editing that was necessary to get them on TV, so there is some cursing and nudity. There are also bonus features including un-aired material and bloopers.
In watching the season over again, I found some of the skits amusing, but realized just how much better the Second Season was in comparison. I can recommend this DVD set, as I found some of the skits funny. If you are choosing between Season One and Season Two, definitely go with Season Two as it had way better material.
