Very comprehensive series about the Catholic church and those that believe in the Catholic faith hosted by Fr. Robert Barron. In addition to scholarship and theology, the DVD series is filled with beautiful cinematography, which is used to illustrate the points in the series. As Fr. Barron points out, the Catholic Church is and always has been a Church that embraces both the "right and left brain" of humanity. Fr. Barron reminds us of the history of Jesus, and we see compelling modern examples of the Gospels in practice. This series is mandatory viewing for anyone with a serious interest in the Catholic Church historically and today.
I've seen the PBS series and I would strongly recommend purchasing the whole set. Fr. Barron is a genial, engaging and very powerful advocate for Christianity and Catholicism who will not be easily dismissed.
If you're a Christian believer, a "cruise control Catholic," or simply an open-minded non-religious person who wonders what Christianity in general, and Catholicism in particular, is all about, by all means purchase this DVD series. If you can't afford it, check out the PBS broadcast.
I had been watching segments of this on Thursday evenings on EWTN (Eternal Word Television Network) the Catholic channel. I was so impressed that I bought the complete set.
I would recommend this to anyone Catholic or Protestant. The segments are filmed around the world giving the history of the early Christian Church in the actual locations that Christian history was made.
I just can't say enough good about it. Father Robert Barron does an excellent job. This set will become a standard and a classic.
You do not have to be Catholic to enjoy this series. It takes all Christians on a journey of their faith to the various locals across the world where the events actually happend. Best I have seen!
I now own two sets since I fear that someone in Church might borrow a DVD and not return it! They are indeed that good! Have led RCIA for many years and feel that this will be a dramatic addition to our sessions. Fr. Barron has a encyclopedic knowledge that he is able to share in comprehensible and nonshowoffy ways. What a wonderful blessing this series is. It makes you proud to be a Catholic in trying times for our Church.

This series will clarify many theological and doctrinal issues for both Catholics and for Evangelical and Mainline Protestants who 'think' they know what Catholicism is but don't really.
