The Casio G'zOne Ravine is a sturdy durable phone that is military-certified to take a beating. Features include outdoor-specific applications, EV-DO Rev. A, Push-to-Talk, GPS, a 3.2-megapixel camera, and more.
The Casio G'zOne Ravine doesn't have external music player controls or a 3.5mm headset jack. Call quality was not as good as expected.
The Casio G'zOne Ravine is a great all-purpose phone for the outdoors enthusiast, but the mixed call quality is disappointing.

Easy to dial & actually use. You can clearly hear your caller via the ear piece or speaker, good tone too. The phone is an excellent, great guy gadget! Z'Gear tools are awesome (Compass, Thermometer, Pedometer, Star Chart, Moon phases, Astro Calendar, Tides, Sunrise & Sunset times, flashlight, Camera & video...Useful real man tools. As described, this phone was factory reconditioned in the original Verizon box with AC adaptor & USB Cable, & original manuals. I could not tell that it had ever been used. Sound is excellent quality with or without earphones. This is user friendly, rugged, highly durable phone. Put in a gallon of water, freeze it solid, call the phone and listen to it ring! The Ravine is the best model by Casio yet.
Casio seems to be riding the success of their previous Gz'One phones as this one does not live up to their reputation. Either it's planned obsolescence or this was some sort of junior engineering project but this phone was not built to last. I bought two of these brand new about 6 months ago and now both are done. I'm currently using my old type S which is still going strong in spite of it's battered exterior.
The biggest problem is that the microphone is actually located near the hinge of the phone rather than at the end nearest your mouth. The result is that unless you hold the phone at some exact, precise angle no one can understand what you are saying. The grill on the mouth end of the phone? Yeah, that's the *speaker* for the speaker phone! Make sense?
The last one died of a broken hinge. While always a vulnerable spot on a flip phone, you would expect this to be a beefed up spot on a "ruggedized" phone. In this case there's actually less re-inforcement than on the earlier types and it is pitifully weak in this area.
They shuffled some of the center button functions compared with earlier phones making it incredibly easy to accidentally connect to the internet.
While it looks "cool", the "non skid" outer coating makes it hard to get the phone in and out of your pocket.
On the plus side, the camera and video quality is much higher and the flashlight function is brighter.
The phone has other "gee-whiz" features that I don't use or care about.
Stick with an earlier version if you need a durable jobsite or farm use phone!
I'll first start off by saying I was lucky enough to be able to use this phone without any cost to me at all....They issue these to us at our job. When my shift is over, I pass the phone onto the next person. So these phones get a lot of use!! They have been dropped, Bumped, had Water, ie, Rain, Snow, Sleet etc, and they continue to function just fine. The battery life has been very good too. As for the functions, Yes, you can text with this phone but being a flip phone, texting, at least for me, is kept to a bare minumum, But I have actually honed my skills putting in one letter at a time, I have been told that I text with speed as someone was watching me. It is not an Android Folks, A Solid Basic phone. It has some other bells and whistles, Calculator, Date/Memo pad, But ine of the really cool features is something called G'gear. There is a Pedometer, a Compass, a Thermometer. Some have said that it is not accurate, I find they work well. I bought this product as I know what it can do as I actually had hands on experience with it. As far as a Comparison goes, It is right up there with The G'zone boulder, and the Samsung Convoy. If there was a dislike, I guess I'd have to go back to the texting, but like I said, it's a flip phone and that is that. I do wish they would have made another version of the Brigade phone, I never had one but it would make texting anything lengthy a little easier, but I am getting off track, Back to the Ravine 2, Solid Phone, I reccomend!!
The phone is really rugged. In my engineering class I placed it in a bowl of water.
We then called my phone and it still worked!
I've thrown it across my room to prove how strong it is. It's INDESTRUCTIBLE!
There are barely any scratches on it!
There is one flaw: the software.
Why does verizon contract Casio to build indestructible phones, yet program it with terrible software?
The network speed is incredible. It downloads media faster than any phone I've used. However for a messaging phone the processing is weak. Sometimes when I get into texting the phone will shut off when messaging too much. To fix this all I do is turn the phone off for a few minutes. When I turn it back on, it always works perfectly for several hours.
Likewise, because it is waterproof it means that nothing gets in or out.
When you put that much padding on a phone some sound will be compromised.
Granted Casio compensated by putting in one of the loudest and highest quality speakers I've ever heard in a cell phone, however the microphone is difficult to work with. You have to absolutely make sure the microphone is level with the corner of your mouth. Otherwise they cant hear you. Once you figure out how to talk into it, its is incredibly easy to use and truly an amazing phone.
The only "real" problem is with the texting. However, this phone has been out for a while now, so soon Verizon should be releasing a software update for the phone which will hopefully fix the occasional text overload the phone can get.
This is a great phone and I'll never buy another!
I like that it is water, dust, and shock proof. I use mine on construction job site and it has tested out great, super strong I have gone through a lot of phones in my line of work but I think that this one is the toughest, with good service in most all areas.
