I paid $80 for this zr-40 and it is well worth the money. I use it to record directly to my laptop with either the 1394 output or the svhs output and a canopus converter. It also records on digital tape (a hassle compared to a flash drive). There were later models about $40 more but I didn't see the the svhs output.

Canon ZR 40

I bought the camera to use the pass through feature so I could record directly from a VHS player to my Mac. It works well for that as long as you remove the tape. Imovie crashes sometimes when there are blank spots on the VHS tape. I
m not sure if that is a problem with the ZR 40 or iMovie. I will have to try it on a newer version of iMovie.

Great, but fragile

Created: 10/09/06
These cameras are great, but they are also very easy to break. I know three people, including myself, who have had one. They all broke in one way or another. Mine lasted me about 3 years, but I don't think that's as long as it should last. Bottom line: awesome camera, just be careful with it!
