Very good video at highest quality setting; nice lens performance.
Poorly designed touch-screen menu system; short battery life; defaults to low-quality video mode.
"At its best, the Canon Vixia HF M3x series--composed of the M300, M30, M31, and M32--delivers a very good blend of video quality, features, and performance for the money, but some people may find the touch-screen interface extremely frustrating to use and the battery life painfully short. Plus, you really need to bump up to the highest bit rate quality. Of the series, the HF M300 is the best deal."

First off, I got a good deal on this on Ebay, so the value for the money is open to interpretation to each individual. This is one simple camcorder to use, and the quality is VERY good with a choice of recording formats. Battery life is so-so and is influenced by the format you choose. No big deal, just buy extra batteries like Idid and problem solved. Along with buying extra batteries, buy an outlet charger so that you don't have to plug the camera in to charge the battery. Even though this is an older version of a new product, I would recommend this wholeheartedly and without hesitation!
This seems to be a great camera. I lucked out and got this at such a good price I really cant complain. It seems to really suck out the battery life, but I knew that when I bought it. (That means 'buy the biggest battery you can for it')I have not noticed any issues with the picture or the sound. The camera is a bit fat to fit in the palm of your hand (and I have big hands so to say)making it a little harder to use comfortably. Also the touch screen takes a bit of getting use to, probably due to my fat fingers. I am happy with it! At the price of 1/3 the retail value, who wouldn't be!
This will be the third camera I will have, NOT because they break down but because I use multi shots on my videos. I did my research and this camera is just what I need. It has so many extras that I don't even use but nice to know I have them just in case.
The real reason I wanted this camera was the 8 GB, even though I don't keep everything on the camera I like to know I have plenty of storage till my project is done!
The other was the external mic and headphone plug, I really don't like to use the internal mic and I was using the Zoom 1 and then adding it in during the edit process, now all I have to do is plug in the shotgun mic and I now have great audio!
You have to look around to find the best deals, this camera avg cost it $700 and I was no way going to spend $2100 for three. I have been lucky and the most I have had to spend was $350 which I will admit are all used but so far I have had NO problems!
All in all if you are looking for a good camera with all the bells and whistles try it out. Trust me I don't have a lot of money to just throw away and this camera was my best investment!
It took me a while to decide on which camcorder I wanted and I finally picked this one; I'm happy with the decision. The picture quality is surprisingly excellent, expecially in well light area's, I wasn't expecting it to function too well in poor lighting conditions or at night with only the natural light to use, but if you play with the white balance it will adjust to the scene pretty well. I was also surprised by the quality of the photos it takes compared to my last camcorder, the size of the photo it takes is pretty large and the quality doesn't fade at all.
I've always had plenty of room on the internal memory and haven't ran out of battery life with my extended battery pack. I like how quick the camcorder starts up, I hate waiting for something to show its logo during its boot up when I want to quickly capture an image. Also when shut the screen it will hibernate and quickly come back on when the screen is opened back up.
Sometimes the menus are tedious to use because you will need to go back into the menus each time you want to adjust something, but the good thing is the last feature you click, you will have the option to click back on it on the bottom left side of the screen.
The only problem I am having with the camcorder is the video numbering, each time I upload my new videos to the computer and delete them from the camcorder, it will reset and they will be numbered the same as the last videos I uploaded previously; I will have to manually go and edit the name of the videos each time, so I wont copy over them on accident. I dont know if its just my camcorder or all of them do it?!?!? but......
Overall I would have to say this camcorder is my baby and I look forward to the memories it will capture in the future!
