This flash can operate as a master or slave (used to fire when other flashes fire). It's a powerful flash that provides enough flexibility to reduce the amount of light emitted while the swivel head allows you to change the direction of the bounce light.
I wasn't happy with the recovery time between shots and have added an external battery that allows me to fire continuously. Like many flashes for advanced cameras, this isn't a 'point and shoot' style flash and will take some time to figure out how to use its functions to maximum benefit.
Purchased product because I wanted flash power and rotating head. Bounce flash creates natural looking photos rather than over exposed flash photos. This Ebay purchase was extra great value for money.
This product is all they say it is. I admit I have not yet had time to go through its endless functions yet, but straight out of the box and in ETTL, this Flash does wonders all by itself. Fill in and bounce flash are truly giving my pictures a whole new dimension of color and sharpness. It took me about a month to decide I wouls spend what this flash actually costs. I considered a Vivitar (cheaper plastic?), Metz (supposedly good but not AS good) or a Canon 4380EX-II (limitations on the head's swivel). I am glad I decided to spend on the 580EX-II. No regrets: this is a fantastically well built and professional piece of equipment and I anticipate it will bring me many years of enjoyable photography. Minor comment: this is a bulky flash (as you would expect for this type) so if you're looking for something portable for simple amateur photography, you might want to consider Canon's soon-to-be-released 270EX II. Also, the pouch is good but on the downside, has no hooks or places through which you might pass a lace, belt, strap or alike: no way to easily strap it onto my top-load camera pouch.
I purchased the 580EX II because, until the fairly-recent release of Canon's 600EX-RT, this was the top-of-the-line Canon Speedlite. I purchased it to be used with my Canon 6D, and it performs perfectly. With many user-friendly controls, it is fairly simple to figure-out how to get the right exposure every time.
The 580EX II was the top-of-the-line Speedlite when the Canon 6D was produced; the 600EX-RT did not exist ... so, it just seemed like the right one to get, and the build-quality is superb.
In this example, I just happened to purchase one that is in perfect, like-new condition.
There is nothing that I dislike about the 580EX II. It is perfect for my needs, and I am very happy with this product.
I the professional photographer and me was necessary reliable and powerful flash, environmentproofed.
Also 580 can be the main flash together with 430 which at me already was.
- The reliable
- The powerful
- Protected from a moisture and a dust
- The master flash
- 360 degrees an angle of rotation
- The price
- Absence of the indicator of a charge of the battery
I advise for semiprofessionals and professionals!
