Product Information
This Canon PowerShot 12.1 MP camera is the ideal travel companion. The Canon PowerShot SX230 HS has a GPS tracker that records the location and date the images were captured. It also has a logger that allows the photographer to view these locations on a map through Canon software. This Canon PowerShot 12.1 MP camera boasts a blue casing and measures 4.2 inches wide, 2.4 inches tall, and 1.3 inches deep, respectively, with a weight of 7.8 oz. This compact digital camera can easily fit in carry-on luggage so that users can keep it close at hand. Among other features, the Canon PowerShot SX230 HS boasts Advanced Smart AUTO technology, which detects the subject and a variety of environmental factors in the background. The camera then automatically selects the best setting from 32 shooting modes. This Canon PowerShot 12.1 MP camera has remarkable zooming power, with a 14x optical zoom, and an image stabilizer that corrects blur that can result from shaky hands or other movement. This compact digital camera produces crisp images with bold vibrant colors, and with its geo-tagging capacity, users can truly take it anywhere.

Product Features
  • HS System
HS System excels in low light allowing you to capture the real atmosphere of the moment without flash or tripod. A high performance DIGIC 4 processor and high sensitivity image sensor give superior image quality in all situations.
  • 28 mm with 14x zoom and Optical IS
A wide-angle lens with a huge 14x telephoto reach allows you to frame exactly the shot you want. From panoramic landscapes to distant subjects, an advanced optical Image Stabilizer keeps shots steady.
  • GPS with Logger function
With GPS tagging, every picture you shoot contains key data on where and when it was taken while the GPS Logger can record your journey. Using the supplied software you can review your images and journey on a map.
  • Full HD with optical zoom, Dynamic IS and Stereo sound
High quality movies can be recorded in Full HD 1080p format with stereo sound. The optical zoom can be used for filming while Dynamic IS reduces the effect of shake and movement when shooting on the move.
  • Wide 7.5 cm PureColor II G LCD
Images are easy to frame thanks to a large 7.5 cm high resolution PureColor II G LCD. A tempered glass outer layer offers increased strength and excellent visibility.
  • Smart Auto
Smart Auto automatically detects up to 32 different shooting scenes so you can take great pictures in complete confidence, knowing that the camera will take care of everything for you.
  • High-speed Burst and Super Slow Motion Movie
Capture fast-paced action using the High-speed Burst mode or slow down movement using Super Slow Motion Movie mode. Both modes provide dramatic and spectacular ways of recording fast-moving subjects.
  • Movie Digest and iFrame movie
Movie Digest captures up to 4-seconds of the action before a shot is taken, joining all the clips together from the same day into a single VGA movie to add to your collection of photos. The iFrame video format is a simple way to quickly import, edit and share video.

Reviews & Research

CNET Editors' reviewVery Good

  • THE GOOD

The Canon PowerShot SX230 HS has good low-light photo quality for its class; excellent color; shooting options that encourage experimentation; and great-looking video quality.

  • THE BAD

Its shooting performance, though good, lags behind the competition as does its GPS functionality. The battery life is short and the overall design could use some help, too.

  • THE BOTTOM LINE

If you want a compact megazoom with manual controls, GPS, and excellent photo quality, the Canon PowerShot SX230 HS is a good place to start.

Not what I was expecting

No, I would not recommend this product.

If you're wanting a point and shoot that is simple to use then this is probably not the camera for you. It does have good picture quality and lots of features if you want to spend a pretty good deal of time to learn to use it. The most annoying thing about it is that when you hold the camera in the normal way for a small camera then you have your finger right on top of the flash so that it can't automatically pop up.
