"The Canon PowerShot SX150 IS offers very good photo quality and features for its class, including semimanual and manual shooting modes, and it uses AA-size batteries."
"The SX150 IS' shooting performance is miserable, as is its battery life, especially using alkaline batteries."
"If a long lens, AA batteries, and some creative control over your photos are what you're after, the Canon PowerShot SX150 IS is a good choice. That is, as long as you don't mind it being painfully slow."

I would have given this camera the full 5 stars if it weren't for a few things that bothered me. 1) Why switch the way the batteries load? 2) Why switch the delete button on the back? 3) Why are there purple/pink balls around bright lights, especially the sun (that wasn't an issue with the SX130 I had)? 4) Why is there a purple-tinted area in a lot of my photos when taking sunset shots? This line also still needs improvement on low-light photography - refuses to focus and very grainy.
As for improvements, the macro works far better than the 130, much sharper images. And the added features such as Super Vivid, Fish Eye, Toy Camera Effect, etc...are cool effects to play with!
Overall, I gave this a 4/5.
Purchased this to replace my older model (2007 model SX100 IS 10X optical zoom 8.0 MP whish I still own and is still functioning with an occasional lens sticking) Just absolutely LOVED the SX100 model it went everywhere with me, took literally million shots with the camera yielding thousands of wonderful photos. My main shots were flowers and concerts. Concerts were super easy to shoot without flash using the night setting which this newer model does not have. I am not thrilled with the replacment of settings on this new model. Why is fish eye setting on the easy dial and wouldn't you consider EASY & AUTO as the same setting? Also why would discreet (silent) need to be on the easy dial when you can go into your camera settings to change this? I would gladly give up the fish eye setting and discreet setting on the quick dial for the night snapshot setting to return. This unit is not as easily navigated as the older model. Going into Macro mode is difficult and frustrating to figure. The picture and video quality are amazing. Have not been able to do concert photos to compare ease and quality as of yet but flowers were frustrating due to not being able to switch easily into macro mode.....Can I have this model with the older models settings???
I bought this camera to take with me for a planned trip to Southern Africa in 2012. I did not want to take a chance and leave my Canon T2i in a strange place by accident. This Canon Power Shot SX150 IS seemed to fit the bill. I was looking for a camera to take both stills and video that uses AA batteries as I know I can purchase them anywhere in the world. I bought a Canon because I trust the name and quality. I have had excellent results thus far experimenting various conditions I will face. I've lived in that part of the world before and I know where I will be living while there. It will range from modern city life to bush country and game reserves. The camera does take a little getting use to as there can be a slight pause between shots. Video takes a lot of battery so it would be good to have at least 8 charged batteries going with me. I am taking a battery charger and a converter. The record button for video is not placed very well on the camera but knowing that and accepting it for what I want to do does not create problems for me. The color is Canon quality and the 12x zoom will be adequate because patience in the reserves is rewarded by getting very close to the wildlife. I purchased 2 16GB cards, Hopefully I can remember one is for stills and the other for video. One thing I have learned when purchasing a new camera for a specific reason i.e. Africa game reserves, one needs to take a lot of shots before going to learn the characteristics of the camera.
I owned a SX130 IS prior to purchasing this one, and this camera series continues to impress me.
I LIKE:
The dedicated movie button, which can be activated in any mode.
The enhanced features in Program mode (some were lacking on the SX130)
Excellent durability, photo, optical zoom range, and video quality at 480p.
The Wind Filter for Movie Mode, which is highly effective at cutting wind noise.
What can make this camera better is a neck strap or some sort of tabletop tripod. Otherwise, this camera is highly efficient for a PAS. Canon should make a DSLR version of this...
I purchased this camera as a replacement for my sony cybershot that I lost. I like it but not sure that it was the best option.
Likes: The color is Canon quality and the 12x zoom is adequate for most of my purposes. The Smart Shutter feature is a bonus.
Dislikes: I really don't like the pause between shots. Video takes a lot of battery. The record button for video is not placed very well on the camera. The camera is bulky for what it provides. It is going take some time to learn all the characteristics of the camera.
