This digital camera has a cornucopia of features; it's zippy and built like a tank.
Relatively significant distortion at the widest angle of view; when zoomed out completely, lens intrudes into viewfinder; no optical zoom during movie capture.
The Canon PowerShot G9 is a solid enthusiast digital camera for those who want something compact to complement a dSLR.

I already have a G7 & G9. I purchased this G9 for my daughter. Condition of the camera was very good, however there was a spot of some kind on the viewing screen. Could be the coating. Past that detail I felt the camera was A good value for the price I paid for it. I love the G series camera's from Canon. They are the next best thing to a full size DLSR camera.
Great pro quality camera. Fantastic pictures if the photographer does his part. It will keep up with many DSLR's of higher price. This is my second one.Only complaints about it: shutter lag between pushing shutter and shutter actuation is too slow and the optical viewfinder could line up better with the actual image captured.
I carry it more than any other camera because it is so handy. When using the DSLR it is used for quick telephoto shots rather than trying to change lenses on DSLR. Use it also for quick product shots for E-bay . Camera club members are often amazed with images from this camera projected on the screen. My photography partner also loves hers.
I bought this as a replacement for my first G9 that was water damaged. The G9 is a great little camera for those wishing to do more than point and shoot but don't have the expertise or budget to take advantage of all the bells and whistles of a DSLR. Besides the automatic settings, the G9 has a number of settings for special situations, such as nighttime, fireworks, foliage, etc. Shoots in RAW for folks who like to manipulate photos after the fact. Not included but great additions are a telephoto and wide angle lens that can be used with a special adapter. The camera's lens is not removable, but the adapter clips over it and holds the telephoto or wide angle lens. This is a great bridge between the point-and-shoot and DSLR worlds.
This is a great camera. This camera was purchased to be used inside an Ikelite housing for taking photographs underwater. It was chosen because of it is easy to use, which when diving is very important. The photographs when compared to the SLR and the DSLR was have are extremely close in quality. Since taking photographs when diving are a lot different than being above water, I felt that using this unit, would be easier than dealing with a DSLR.
It produces great photographs, almost as good as my old Nikonos V, and now I don't run out of film(27 - 28 was max) and I don't worry about wasting film (used to try and save one or two frames) for a great shot, but usually ended up with non-exposed film. Now, that is not an issue. I don't worry about the number of shots as there is no film. Even at 12 megapixels, I don't run out of storage.
If you are looking for a great camera to use when diving look closely at the Canon G9 unit. You will not be disappointed either above or below the water.
This a fantastic camera overall, takes wonderful pictures in good light, handles well, enough in the way of controls to keep the geek in me satisfied.
Low light performance leaves something to be desired, but that is something to be expected with any compact camera, unless you willing to go into the stratosphere price wise,
If you decide to get this camera read the user manual to get the most out of the many options available in this unit.
The ability to add converters to the g9 is a plus,it takes very good macro shots and having the extra reach of the 200mm telephoto is a plus.
Part of the reason for going with the g9 over any of the other g series was the long lens,it helps me get a bit closer to wildlife with out disturbing them as much.
All in all this is a great little camera for what it is,which is the camera that I am most likely to have at hand most of the time,
I will not do all the things that a SLR with prime lenses will do,such as low light or fast action, but it does everything else really well.
In short I a very pleased with this camera and would recommend it to any one looking for a small camera that is good for travel photography.
