Awesome camera, no wireless remote.

I bought this camera mainly for the one feature that ended up missing on it, a wireless remote. I had a Pentax with an IR wireless remote that finally died, so I did research on the internet for a replacement. This camera consistently received high marks and in the technical features it indicated the camera had a wireless system. Unfortunately, it doesn't. Other than that, no complaints.
The picture quality is superb. The flash does a great job in low level light. I took photos in Wind cave and Jewel cave and the flash did a great job of capturing details. It has a video option which does a nice job, too. It has facial recognition software and so many options this should be considered more of an SLR than a typical point and shoot camera.
On the downside it doesn't have a wireless remote, I had to spend extra to buy a wireless system that connects via the camera's hotshoe. Also, the camera is larger and heavier than a point and shoot camera so it will not fit in your pocket. The upside of that is that it is very sturdy. I had the camera on a tripod, a blast of wind came along and made it fall onto some rocks, other than a couple scratches it works fine.
I love this camera and would recommend it to anyone who doesn't want to mess with an SLR but wants some of the higher end features of an SLR so you can do more with your shots. Just don't expect it to have a built in wireless feature.

State of the P&S art. For another week.

I love the control the G12 gives me. There is simply no other point and shoot that gives you such instant adjustment of all the essential shooting parameters, along with a built-in ND filter to extend your daylight capabilities.

However, this week we will come close as Canon unveils the S100, successor to the scintillating S95. I use the S95 about 5 times as often as the G12. It has a much faster lens (though with a bit less telephoto reach) and uses the same sensor and guts as the G. It doesn't have as many physical controls as the G and its small size/aperture ratio means huge barrel distortion. But Canon has corrected that in the S's computer.

The S100 adds a bit more lens length, a new CMOS sensor and a built-in ND filter just like the G12. I have the S100 on order. Very likely you will see both my S95 and my G12 offered for auction on eBay the day it arrives.

Love the G12. Please buy mine because I'm smitten by the new S100.

Bought to do better pictures for ebay items to list. A friend has this one, and her pictures are great.
I like it because it is easy to use.
I do not like the complete manual is on-line. I want one to refer to when I forget how to do something with it.
I would buy this one again, because I find it a great asset for ebay and personal use.

Buy it if you don't want a hard copy of the User Guide

I wrote a negative review and it was not posted ~ I wonder why?

The negative comment was not about the camera, it is great. The negative part is about the User Guide. Canon provides a 40-page printed guide with the camera. The total length of the guide is 214 pages.

The camera also comes with a CD. The CD contains an unprintable pdf of the complete guide. This is a complicated camera and not having a hard copy with which to refer is an exercise in FRUSTRATION.

In attempting to read the Canon pdf scrolling through the guide is cumbersome, time consuming, unacceptable and aggravating. Not having a hard copy to read and study is OUTRAGEOUS.

I have broken the code and now have a hard copy of the guide. It is UNCONSCIONABLE that Canon will not let their customers print their own hard copy. I can now take the hard copy with me in the field. Procedures for using the features are not very user friendly, and over time one tends to forget how to access certain functions.

I would recommend the product only if you can justify not having a hard copy of the guide.
