I was looking for a small camera that I could carry with me on my trips around the world. I took lots of pictures with it and I can say, this camera is woth every cent. Landscapes, portraits, snapshots with friends and especialy pictures in barely lighted romms are fantastic. This camera captures these moments really good.
The different modes are also pretty useful. Amplifying colors or using the filters are nice things to play with, the results look like they were taken by a much more expensive camera.
The only wekness are pictures in total darkness. Like taking a picture of a city skyline at night and far away. There is just no way to get enough light on the sensor. But as I said, pictures in bars, restaurants and on low lighted streets are no problem.
This is an incredible camera that has aged pretty well.
The only function that I would ask for is manual controls, but that is not the purpose of this point-and-shoot camera which is superb.
I use it primarily for video-blogging and it is a tremendous camera! You can program the settings how you need them and instantly shoot video at full HD.
Even more expensive cameras today onyl record in 720p, but this bargain shoots at 1080p as well and the quality of the video is excellent.
The image stabilization is pretty impresive as well.
Although I own a pro DSLR capable of shooting video, I prefer to record on this little camera.
It is very pocketable, is just a hair thicker than your iPhone.
The battery life is pretty good for its tiny battery, which can hold an entire day of normal shooting no problem. And you can squeeze more out of it if you dial in the best settings in the menu (like turning off the welcome image and turning down the brightness in the screen; I usually leave it at minimum and I can still watch it in any lighting conditions)
It is a very small camera but will fit most hands pretty confortable, it is quite light for its features.
Autofocus is quite fast and snappy in most lighting conditions. No problems whatsoever.
Is is great for this size and price. I have yet to find another point-and-shoot this friendly that renders the same quality files.
Super slow-mo movie is awesome for some cool footage.
The creative filters are fun but not so much use with apps such as instagram
It is compatible with eye-fi SD cards, so if you can afford one, throw in one and enjoy the instant sharing of your camera!
Don´t be caught in the Megapixel frenzy out there right now, unless you print everyday billboard-sized, you don't need more than 5Mpx for sharing, viewing in smartphones and facebook. This camera's 12Mpx is way more than you'll ever need.
Its quality is undeniable, and for what it is worth is way better than many other brands and even newer point-and-shoots.
I love this camera and its feature set. The newer Canon's remove some of the shooting modes and abilities that make the 300 HS such a great device. When we accidentally got sand in our original 300, I looked at newer cameras, but didn't want to give up what we had previously, which is why I sought out a good used one on Ebay. I'm glad that I did, and the replacement has been performing perfectly.
The modes and abilities we would have really missed include the color replace and the super slow-mo video. We don't use them ALL of the time, but it sure is nice to have them available. There are a few other things which Canon has removed in their newer models, too. Maybe they found which features MOST people use and decided to ditch the rest. Whatever the reason, I didn't want to buy something newer which didn't have all the same stuff as an older device to which I had grown accustomed. Also, I toggle in and out of the different shooting modes all the time, and it's quite easy. Like anything else, it takes a bit of getting used to, but once you do it all the time, it's really second nature. The zoom is fantastic and the various modes really make this a great little camera.
I can't really think of anything that I dislike about this camera, except possibly that in lower-light situations, with the flash off, things have to be perfectly still or they come out blurry. However, that's true of pretty much any camera, so that's maybe just my frustrations with the limitations of cameras, in general.
This is a product worth buying. It is currently one of the, if not THE, best camera in its price range right now. It's small and easy to grip, but has big enough buttons for any size fingers. The photos are of good quality and the features are numerous and fun to use. Overall, product exceeds expectations.
I bought this camera for its price point, and I'm fully satisfied. Before that I had the Powershot SX130 IS, and this one's picture quality is much better. So the good points according to me, compared to other cameras I've used:
1. Shots taken at night are really impressive (no noise problems whatsoever).
2. Awesome battery life.
3. Very small, really easy to carry around.
4. Does not lag at all when processing images, so several pictures can be taken without much waiting in between.
5. Slow-motion video is a cool feature.
The only problem I experience with this camera is that sometimes, the white balance is not very accurate, and my pictures tend to look slightly warm/yellowish, but that can be corrected on any editing software.
